Kentucky bourbon trail

Alright Brain trust.....I did this last time I ventured out of my cave and you guys knocked it out of the park.

The lady and I are headed to Kentucky, primarily for Jim Beam, but we will have some time. So what I'm asking you guys is, what other distills do we need to see, which ones do we skip, what do we absolutely need to see in the beautiful metropolis of Louisville???

Eagerly anticipating the responses!!!

There is no shortage af distilleries. In downtown Louisville, Hotel 3C always has an interesting art collection to see. The Louisville Slugger tour is also pretty cool. If you stay within walking distance, bar hopping on fourth street is fun. Most important, there are two AD’s east of the city.

Maker's Mark Loretto, Ky. If you are there between Oct. 5 and the 27, a must go to is Keeneland Race track.

There are no finer places on the planet for a horse race. It is stunning.

4 Roses, Willett are must stops though not on any of the traditional tours.

I would go to Woodford, though I'm not a huge fan of their product they have a great tour. Michter's too, great new facility. And Makers Mark, again not for their products but the history. I would have said Barton and it might be back to normal but they've had other things on their minds lately LOL

I lived right across from Louisville for many years. If you enjoy baseball at all, the Louisville slugger/ museum is pretty cool. Churchill downs, where the Kentucky derby is held, is also a good option.

If you want to relax a little, the riverfront has some great parks and sights.

Agreed. It's worth the hour drive to see.

Downtown Louisville has several distilleries. I would recommend Old Forester at Whisky row. Afterward you can go to Hell or High Water a new speak easy that just opened. Then off to Jeff Ruby's for dinner. All within a couple of blocks.

Outside of Louisville my fav is Makers Mark and Woodford.. Woodford has the double/double oak only available at the distillery.

I’ve been to Makers Mark and found it a great experience.

I was able to pick the bottles I wanted and dip them into the wax myself. Made for nice Christmas presents that year.

And we're back in Cali.
So we took some of your suggestions and then did our own program. First day we hit Buffalo Trace which was amazing. I even found my new favorite bourbon there, Blantons. Then over to Bulleit which was ok, Churchill Downs, and wrapped up the day with Angels Envy (her fav). We found the coolest bar a block from our AirBNB, called Odeon. It was set up like a house from the 50's ish and was a great way to wind down after the day. We actually wrapped up every night at Odeon. The coolest part was that we were on Cali time, so I was able to stay out way late, like the cool kids. Our last day was spent at Jim Beam. Easily the best one in my opinion. This was the original reason for heading out there anyways. We bottled our own Knob Single Barrel, even thumbprinting the wax seal for security. All in all, a pretty nice weekend. It changed a lot of preconceived notions I had about the bluegrass state. Bravo Kentucky.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who threw down a suggestion. I love that this place is a community that has knowledge on everything.
