Gillian’s Island

One of my favorites as a kid, but really? Tell me everything wrong with the show?

Thurston couldn’t charter his own boat?

They could make a nuclear reactor out of bamboo but couldn’t fix a three foot hole in a boat

We were so poor that we had to make do with reruns of "Gilligan's Island."

Still remember the scene where Gilligan took a bath while wearing a watch on a leather strap. I’m going to guess it was not a Rolex.

Gilligan's first name was "Willy". Skipper's name was "Jonas Grumby". But those names weren't mentioned beyond the press release introducing the show. And the radio the professor alway used was an AM radio with an FM antenna.

This question always comes up with Gilligan's island discussion, Ginger or Mary Ann?

Where did Mary Ann get the milk for the coconut cream pie?

I went to Gilligan's Island as an undergraduate. It's a marine research facility in Kaneohe Bay.

This is based on the movie Castaway, but I’d have expected to see a lot more weight loss.

St Patrick's Day 2004, the Plaza Hotel NYC, I had the pleasure of meeting and drinking Budweiser with the lovely Ms. Tina Louise (AKA Ginger)

A very nice women, but I would not mention Gilligan's Island to her. I understand that she holds a lot of animosity towards the producers and staff due to lack of royalties.

She was still an attractive women then.

Read the same about Sly (and The Family Stone) living in a van a few years back in Cali, for the same reason. All the great hits they had, but no royalties for the band themselves.

Mary Ann for me!

The SS Minnow does not appear to be run with a steamship (SS) engine and therefore should have been MV Minnow or MY Minnow (motor vehicle or yacht)

A local Cincinnati newscaster won an award and one of the perks was his voiceover heard over the little white radio broadcasting a news flash on Gilligan's Island. I knew nothing of this during the original airing. But many years later I happen to have the show on while getting ready for work and was stunned to hear my local news guy's voice belting out breaking news.

The good old days of good family TV shows. Nowadays, all there is junk. Reality TV should be banned. Half the channels on cable are horrible.

The show only ran for 3 years but sometimes shows like this are career killers. Most of the cast never really did any decent acting after these shows ended. They were so associated with the ridiculous characters that they couldn't break free.

Also there were no real syndication deals then so the actors didn't receive much in royalties. Mary Wells was rumored to have received a better deal but she later denied making much off the show.

The producer of the show made 90 million on it.

As a young man, I was all over Mary Ann, but as I've aged and my tastes have grown more sophisticated, I've found myself lining up behind Ginger more and more.
