If you don't care about the papers and know your piece is authentic, then the only value to the papers is for resale.

The vast majority of buyers will pay more for a complete set, and all things being equal everyone will pick the watch with box and papers.

If you ever want to sell as an individual having the box and papers make an huge difference.

That’s a really good point

Things happen in life though & B&P do get lost or thrown out due to house moves, couples splitting up , etc & not just because the watch has been stolen. True story , when I was getting divorced from my 1st wife she took some family heirlooms which were very sentimental to me & several watches of mine with full B&P when she moved out of the house . I tried my hardest to get them back & even went to the police , only to be told as we were still married she was entitled to take them. After a long drawn out period including my solicitors help , she gave me the watches back & the family heirlooms ,but said she had thrown all the B&P away .

Rats!! That’s a hellava story

I guess an example would be in order.

This is the Rolex 5512 Submariner that I was offered without paperwork. It was from a T/S that I had bought other vintage watches from. It was the best dial and overall condition I had seen in a long time. It was checked by Dalton and all was in order.

Would you have let it go because it did not have paperwork?

Hell no! I’d buy that!

Papers are less important on 4 digits to me. Most don’t have em. Always trust the eyes of a professional over papers.

One can always drop by rsc for a $160 authentication if they are worried about stolen watches or counterfeit parts.
