If they were realistically priced I'd be happy with a Gondolo, and that is about the least popular of the Pateks.

I was 35. Was just getting into watches. Was buying all vintage pieces. I bought a 3468 very early off. Loved it, but got out of vintage stuff altogether.

5035rg around 1999 or so. From my archives, here she is.

Yet first a funny story. Was like many newbies here and wore it 'sparingly', never in a shower or the beach. One day looked at the front crystal and SWORE i must have chipped it somehow. Tried cleaning her, etc to see if it was surface scrub, yet it seemed not to be.

Months went by, and while never showering with it and of course never exposing it to too much moisture.

One day while caught in a biiiiig rainstorm she got very very wet. No water ingress thank goodness, yet when wiping her dry the crystal chip was gone!

It was then i realized while eating cotton candy months back at a circus some of it must have landed on the crystal and stuck. It was soooo stuck that it seemed like a chip. LOL!

Great collection! Can you share your thoughts which one wears bigger? The 5980 or BLNR?

Age. 20, and it was a steel Nautilus.

I bought it at Chong Hing in San Gabriel, Los Angles in 1998. I still remember this vividly because the son of the AD founder told me I should buy this watch because the value of it will go up in the future. At the time I was like what is this ugly watch. But he gave me a discount on it, I don’t remember the price exactly but it was around 7k USD.

Unfortunately I never liked it, and sold it after two years. Should have listen to him and kept it, oops.

They wear very differently, the 5980 is bulkier and I think wears slightly larger than the BLNR. Optically, the way it is shaped and the bezel, it doesn't really look that much bigger than the BLNR. I sold the 5980 shortly thereafter, didn't sing to me and certainly not for $95k on steel. I think a 5712 will be next or blue 5726.

Mine was the 3710/1A. My friend got the 3800, for even less price than mine.

I wonder if he still kept it to this day. We kind of lost touch after school.

If you asked me in my 20’s if I thought I would own a Patek before age 50 I would have laughed. Anything can happen!
