New 9s63 manual wind dress watches from GS

Exciting. Just wish they would have put the power reserve on back.... Not sure how I feel about 9'o clock second sundial either.... Not bad looking watches though.

Not really impressed, power reserve has nothing to do on a dress watch. no bevelled edges on the movement as far as I could see.
"Independant" and taking the short cut already because of high demand ?

Kind of how I felt. Was excited to see the announcement , then looked at the watches and was a little underwhelmed.

Agreed. power reserve on a manual wind is not all that useful, as most people top it off every day or every other day.

Power reserve doesn’t bother me, but the design is meh.

The rose gold and black dial is stunning with the burgundy a close second, I’d wear the stainless steel version in a heartbeat. They said they were thinner, but how thin?

I find a PR particularly useful on my manual watches. I don't tend to top them off regularly, so having the visual reminder is nice to have. It also helps so that you don't overwind.

Have to agree a power reserve is almost only useful on a manual wind.

I really like them. They have an interesting case design that feels very Seiko and the mt iwate dials are always welcome.

Yes, if you don’t top off regularly, then its useful. But I've had many automatics stop overnight because I didn't wear it long enough or didn't move around at my desk enough, where a power reserve would have been useful.

I keep the automatics I have in regular rotation on a winder, so never have that problem.

The maroon rose gold piece has a dial exactly like my 2016 iwate dial watch ; they have “revamped “ or maybe even recycled a previous dial design...

They might look similar... But the rose gold models employ urushi with multiple layers of lacquer with gold dust sprinkled in between each layer. The end result is pretty stunning and unique to each watch. This is different from the iwate inspired dial like the blue stainless dial and previous iwate dials. Hence the huge price premium.

Ho-hum....

The lacquer dials are nice, but already available in Presage models that cost significantly less.

The case is not refined, when wide and flat lugs that aren’t finished at all.

The 12/6 font is not very nice and doesn’t fit the rest of the watch.

The execution of the PR indicator looks cheap. The small seconds are too far to the center for a new movement.

Overall, kind of a mess, IMHO. The steel one is the best, but the pricing is agressive.

I'm thinking so too. Probably preordering one. I love the blue iwate dial (just like my sbgj231) and the design seems great overall. I thought at first maybe keep the power reserve in the back but if they're going to put the second subdial @ 9'o clock....this gives some balance. Then I also thought if it'd be a better watch with no subdials......it'd be an option but I wouldn't pick that over the SBGW253 I have incoming......so the dial does seem more interesting in that sense to me.

One think about release pics from Seiko, they suck. When you actually see real pics online they tend to look amazing.
