It's mind boggling to hear this "Econ" major talk about spending the $3Billion that they aren't "giving" to Amazon.
Can she really be that financially illiterate? |

I hope they double the VA campus or add a Bethesda, Rockville, or Silver Spring Campus. Amazon and DC have long term synergistic benefits.

Can we expect the people who get the jobs move to the neighborhood and become locals?

Is it that we don't want to pollute the site with political stuff or is it that we don't want to pollute the site with political stuff we don't agree with?
Because there seems to be a lot of political opinions slid into a lot of threads. Not pointing any fingers but just wondering. |

Being local and having a bit of access and insight to the politics...
A large part of the issue was the way the deal came about. Many decisions were made without inclusion of the community and more importantly without consideration of the local elected officials. This was not solely the responsibility of amazon but the mayor and governor as well. It caused backlash from the community that put pressure on the elected officials and presented a welcome opportunity to oppose a corporate giant who represents “the man” Including all of the community and elected officials concerns would have certainly slowed and put the deal in peril from the beginning, but not including them was at this moment in history quite simply a mistake.

Try the last 30+ years. My dad moved us to southern Oregon (from central California) in 1991 and there were complaints then about the "invasion of Californians" coming over. I moved to Nevada in 2002 and it's been steadily moving that way, as well, as people try to escape high property taxes and ridiculous laws, but then come over and change things. Oregon is now essentially a mini-California; it only took 30 years, less than half a lifetime. Nevada will soon be that way, too, unfortunately.
