My LBS is bringing in an 29" Specialized Stumpjumper ST for me to try. I think I have narrowed it down to either this bike or the basically same one in carbon.

The carbon model has just a few more upgrades, but it is also $1500 more. I'm not sure that I will be able to tell that much of a difference between the two.

And another +1. Even though I have all of the newest advancements available to me, I’m very slow to adopt or endorse them. However, the 1X system is a winner.

Well, yesterday I put a deposit down on a Specialized Stumpjumer ST Expert 29.

This is a lot more bike than I need, but what the heck. I don't plan on buying another one.

Thanks for all the replies. It should be here next week.

Please post impressions. My Stumpjumper is dead and I need to think about a new one. I am a big dude at 250 lbs and most rear suspension isn’t strong enough for me so typically I lock it out.

The expert price point is always the sweet spot in the specialized line up so good call on that mate!

Cant wait to see the pucs of your bike for the next 4-5 years.

Until you go custom titanium, there will always be a need for a new frame.

Season opener for our state series this weekend. Took my Scott (and my Seiko Save the Ocean) out for a ride today. Rocky Hill Ranch in Smithville TX.

Mountain bike for an old guy

My old one has 26' wheels.

I bought a Trek XM700 Ebike last summer. The electric bike has been great on the road and even some bike paths. I don't want another E bike. This will be hanging in my garage and the electric bikes are just too heavy for me to lift like that.

I would like to stay in the $3000 +/- range.

Test ride / demo to find the model you like best. Rent above your price range ($4-$5k bikes) and then buy closeout model online or one from a demo fleet at the end of the year from your LBS.

In FL, a cross country bike with a 120mm of travel will be fine.

Check out the Niner JET9 RDO.

Edit: Congrats on the new bike. BTW - I’m 56 and still riding. Niner RIP9 RDO in summer and Salsa Beargrease in winter.
