I just really enjoy a "good" watch...

On a whim I picked up this $200 Seiko SKX and thought I'd share a photo and ask who else harbors a weakness/fondness for inexpensive watches?

The crown screws in to provide 200 m water resistance, but otherwise it is not hand-winding and it is not hackable (sort of). I thought this was interesting. My old air king is also non-hacking, nevertheless, both can be (gently) back-hacked if you are determined to sync either to an atomic clock.

As I understand it, the SKX model lineup and its 7S26 movement have not benefitted from any noted improvements (I don't think) since the SKX was introduced ~1996. I haven't looked into when the little 7S26 was first introduced. It is neither pretty nor accurate but it is reputed to "run forever".

Anyway, I think the SKX is a handsome and obviously low (LOW) cost specimen, but a legitimate dive watch just the same, and therefore barely a worthy companion(contrast) to my sea dweller.

Anybody else hiding dark and inexpensive secrets in their collection?

I personally prefer the Sea-Dweller to the SKX, it has much better water resistance and the winding mechanism is much more sophisticated.

Oh, agreed!

I just think the SKX is appreciable on its own merits and at its own tiny price-point.

Don't ask me to give up the sea dweller!? :)

Most certainly, though I wouldn't call them "dark"! I have that SKX and an Orange Monster. And I'm sure I can't be the only one on this forum with a weakness for solar atomic G shocks...

To me they're "honest", credible timepieces perfectly designed for their function.

If you're going mountain biking or to the gym, why wouldn't you wear a G shock? My Orange Monster has served me perfectly for 50 dives, and if I smack it on a cylinder and give it a few "battle scars", who cares?

In fact I went to collect my Speedmaster after it had been serviced recently. The staff member saw the G shock I was wearing and we spent longer discussing Casios than Omegas...

Looks awesome. I have a Hamilton Khaki that I routinely wear and I love it. Simple, can take a beating, and I love having to wind a watch in the morning.

Skx is one of the top watches out there. Its the cheapest in our family collection but its one of the best. Built for purpose. I think its been tested to 400m vs the 200m advertised.

Definitely! I have what I call my "important" watches and my "fun" watches. I have Luminox, Hamilton, Zodiac, Victornox, Debaufre, Edifice, Arc-Tic, etc. Cool colors, etc.

Of course, the SD is the better watch and is better at everything.

The SKX is cool though, definitely considering how much watch you can get for just a few hundred dollars.

Low cost Hamiltons, Luminox, G-shocks, Seikos ...on any given Tuesday I could find one to buy.

This SKX013 purchase was driven by an article in "business insider" (?) that quoted the president of Seiko USA as saying...that Seiko is intent on shifting its sales focus away from the inexpensive and toooo the expensive: With Grand Seiko on the tip of that bloody spear ("bloody spear" is my own exaggeration).

It was this that prompted me to throw mad money at an SKX. I heard it on a U-tube channel, but then found a link ...which I did not save.

Not that they're likely to disappear tomorrow, but I could not imagine paying inflated prices on the secondary market ....for an out of production SKX anytime soon/ever(?)!

...I say that now. :(

I only own one; it works great but lacks refinement. It's a great watch for use when wearing an expensive watch isn't a good idea. Mine's an automatic so it doesn't require winding in the morning.

I have the Seiko SRP777. Bought it a few weeks ago and has been on my wrist ever since.

Seiko is very cool. The best bang for the buck Seiko are the Japanese made ones; they are decently priced yet built with the Japanese quality. I have a made in Japan Seiko No. 5 that I have owned for 10 plus years, still keeping good time.

That Seiko is a real handsome guy! Not to mention excellent quality and value, and in that sense is a great accompaniment to your Sea-Dweller!

I bought an SKX013 as a token when I got my first salary from my first job. That was 20 years ago. The watch still works and keeps good enough time. Those SKX's are not just fun watches, they are real, functional, tool watches.

Here is one of Seikos! I use it when I mow the lawn or work around the house. My wife has one that is a 36mm she wears if she will be working on the flower beds or if she’ll be somewhere I deem not appropriate for her Omegas or Rolex.

I love my Seiko's as well, they are worn pretty often depending on the situation. I got tired of doing the whole arm waving thing to get the movement to start in the morning so I upgraded the movement on my SKX009 to NH36A, about to do the same mod to my SKX033...

Ive got three g shocks and love them....I think they serve their purpose better than Rolex and in my opinion are a whole lot more honest than the 6 digit refs

I own the black and red monster. The real dark secret is the Casio f91-w, if my teenage self couldn't break it I see no need for a G-Shock, I wear it for gardening.

Nothing wrong with a Seiko skx, I have a number of Seiko's, a Longine, a Orient Mako2 and 3 Rolex watch's. Each one is worn for whatever mood I'm in, but the skx gets the most wrist time
