1955 Pontiac, robin blue.
Mom forgot her purse on the back "wing", and it survived riding there undisturbed two miles on gravel road.

My first car was a 1966 Olds Cutlass convertible, purchased for $1400 in 1968 when I was 16.

78 Toyota Corolla. Stick shift with a pull choke, and it was Brown. I paid $380 bucks for it and I was 15 with no license. Me and my friend spray painted it flat black with spray cans in front of my apartment building. I also tinted the windows, it was pretty awesome.

1968 FIAT 850 Coach with a semi automatic 4 speed transmission. Clutch engaged by pushing down on stick shift handle. Got it in 1975. Got a million miles to the gallon which was excellent during the gas lines from shortage.

Peugeot 505 Turbo. Circa 1987.
Slowest car I’ve ever driven. I think 0-60 was about 17 minutes.

In 1986 — a 1977 Volvo 244DL hand-me-down from my parents.
The thing was a Tank. Learned how to drive the 4speed on that thing without using the clutch.

AMC Concord. Don't remember the year. It was the precursor to the AMC Eagle, which was a four wheel drive sedan, that might be more memorable. Bodies looked about the same, but the Eagle sat higher for the 4x4. It wasn't pretty, but it worked well.

1973 Chevy Nova with a 307. It wasn’t quick but ate gas like no tomorrow. You could watch the gas gauge move when you put your foot into it.

70 Chevelle. 350 Horses. High School. It was a blast. Surprised I didn't kill myself, some friends or innocent others. By the grace of God.
When I joined the Army as an MP it was partially blown up. Some soldier that another MP in my company had apprehended blew up his car in the barracks parking lot and mine was parked next to it. Got orders for Korea shortly after that so it wasn't repairable time wise. Sold it for a pittance. |

1974 Ford Mustang ll. I believe the base price was $2495. I ordered it with 4 options:
Radial tires at ~$120 AM Radio at ~$70 “Lux” Interior at ~$100 Manual sunroof at ~$140 Loved that car. I was 18 years old and it represented real freedom. The sunroof was the best option as it brought the outside in. It was operated by a crank in the roof just like the way you cranked open a window. |
