Help with a possible counterfeit GMT Master II Black Dial

Hello,

This is my first post and I would like to say thank you to all members.
My brother just purchased a Rolex GMT Master II Black Dial which I think is a very bad counterfeit copy. The bracelet makes a noisy rattle everytime and there are also other signs of very bad finish in the bezel which raised some concerns. There are no clicking sounds when the bezel is turned and the numerals seems not sharp. The bracelet shows a very bad stamped Rolex crown in the clasp itself. Also, the shapphire crystal glass seems to raised for this model. I sharp and expert eye would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards, Roberto.

Looks good to me. It's an older gmt master 2 tone with a newer luminova dial. Looks like the hands were also swapped. Probably common for this to happen at service. The case, crystal, & bracelet look period correct. I am not an expert, and I could be wrong.

It's just overpolished. Also, the "sapphire" isn't too big. It's clearly acrylic.

Like the plexi dome; I agree, clasp is over polished.

My 16750 bezel insert doesn't click when turning either. I don't think mine's a fake.....I think you're fine. And If not, we're both screwed.

Early bezels do not "click". They are friction-lock and you press down to change to another setting.

This is a legit 16753 with an overpolished clasp and replacement hands and dial. The bracelet rattle is perfectly normal and the crystal is acrylic and correct. The bezel is not supposed to click and this is a GMT-Master not a GMT-Master 2, so it has a true quickset date and no jumping hour hand.

So it seems that you have a legit Rolex that you are both very disappointed with. What does your brother plan to do with it?

I find the dial and font not crispy enough. Although magnifier looks ok. But i miss the crispiness of a Rolex.

Another thing you can check is to search for a deep scratch in the gold. If it is still gold, you can count on a real one.

Trade it for a 116710LN which is what it sounds like your brother wants.

I feel like this must be the fear of every seller of vintage watches. Folks who don't do their research buy something older and then get confused when it's not like a modern watch, and conclude it must be fake. Credit to the Op, though, for looking for information and not just immediately complaining about the seller who sold the "fake" watch.

When folks complain how Rolex prices have increased much faster than inflation, I always think it's important to remember that the watches have got a lot better over time. That lower price fifty years ago was for a watch that just plain isn't as nice.

OP, in my limited knowledge, I first thought it was fake but you know what, it might be an original that's had a couple of services..

Good luck and fingers crossed here for you

All good here, service dial and hands. It's been slightly over-polished, though not too bad for a watch 30+ years old.

It's slightly overpolished, acrylic, and I believe a redial.
