5513 crystal ring help
I removed the bezel from '79 5513 yesterday and the crystal retaining ring came away with it...not seen this before, I removed it from the underside of the bezel and refitted it straight away to the case, pushing it down as far as it would go.
So, does that probably mean it isn't waterproof now? I don't take it anywhere near water anyway (not a drop) so does it matter? Or is it my watch's way of asking for a service |

Acrylic crystals are soft and relatively pliable but they can deform. They also become brittle with time and "set". Frequently if the retaining ring comes off easily it means that the crystal is no longer flexible enough to be compressed by the ring.. It likely means that the crystal has not been changed for quite some time..
As to waterproof; only a pressure test will tell you that....
