$150 to pressure test two watches????

A dear friend of mine was down from Canada......He told me he hadn't gotten around to pressure testing his 16800 or his wifes Rolex because the AD wanted $150..............So I took him to my AD and had it done for them for free.......
$75 a piece to pressure test a watch???? INSANITY!!!!
And to add insult to injury, my friend had purhcased not one but two watches from this AD in the past......

Just curious how old were the watches in question and did they have any previous service???

That seems quite high. I recently had a grey dealer regulate and pressure test my YM and I wasn't charged.

To pressure test a Rolex Submariner using the correct equipment takes a bit of time and capital investment. I'd be interested to see the free test results?

It could have been the old :-

'Oh yeah, it passed the minus 0.8 of a atmosphere test and that equals 300 metres of water pressure'...

I don't know where you got that information at but 1 atmosphere is 33 feet so -.08 atmosphere is no where near 900' of depth. Vacuum is vacuum pressure is pressure.There's no where on this planet with negative pressure that wouldn't kill you long before your watch failed. I test vacuum and pressure but the pressure test is what matters you're not likely to be in a vacuum anytime soon. Rik the Watchmaker

Relax. I agree with you.

I didn't post -.08 but anyway my point was that there are watchmakers who test a watch by using only a vacuum test because they don't have the equipment to pressurise a watch to 33 bar {30 bar +10% (nom)}.
They claim that this low vacuum test is a harder test to pass than a high pressure test.

My point was that I did not agree.

ps. IMO 33 ft is not normally referred to as one atmosphere.

In the United Kingdom, scuba divers and others often use the word atmosphere loosely (the correct term is "ambient pressure") to mean 1 bar.

If you meant 33ft under water that is not normally measured in atmospheres.

If you read this post I did have a question for you.

In a previous post I think you said that the platinum bezel on a Yachtmaster was one piece where another poster said that the bezel insert was removable. Can you tell me which is correct?

Let me say that again, I am not a watch maker and make no claims to know anything in regard to that field.....But several years ago I had asked my friend, who use to work at Rolex of BH, if having my watches pressure tested at my local authorized Rolex service center was okay and a fair and accurate test....I was told that it was just fine......

Sorry I got testi been working 31 days straight just a little delerious. The gold or platinum bezel is a single unit which makes it a bit harder to detail but I've perfected it with trial and error on scrap gold pieces I had on hand. If he had a 2 part ym bezel it was an aftermarket part Rik the watchmaker
