Breaking In

By the way, is there a breaking in period for brand new watches? If yes, what might possibly happen to a watch not fully broken in yet? What is the best way to break in a brand new watch? And lastly, how long does it takefor watch to be fully broken in?
Thanks in advance.

Just wear the watch and don't worry about the 'break-in' period. I suspect your watch is pretty accurate already.

as above , it will have run long enough by the time you put it on not to have to worry.

I do not know about new watches, but when I get a watch back from service I usually just wear it a couple of months for it to settle before I measure it's accuracy. I like to have my watches regulated to about +1s/day and there is no point doing that until it has settled.

If I would guess, I would say that it is less of a problem with a new watch and it has most likely already settled when being tested and regulated at the factory.

I think this just about sums it up.

From personal experience, the break in period was a small factor in the older models.
It's barely an issue of any significance at all these days.

I have to thank TRF members. My new BLNR Batman was losing more than four seconds a day when I first got it. I was advised to wear it and let it settle in before worrying about any adjustments...they were exactly right. It's now spookily settled down to gaining less than a second a day...consistently. I couldn't be happier, and, in spite of anyone who says there is no 'settling in' period, it's worth doing.

Similar experience with my Sea-Dweller 116600.

Perhaps older ones had a run in period, but my new one appears to behave exactly the same as the day in which I received it.

Maybe watch sat unwound for long time. My BLNR running consistently +1.1 to 1.5 seconds / day in all conditions I have put it through, from driving to cycling to just sitting there for a day and manually wound. Very impressive instrument indeed!

While this is a ‘slightly’ older thread, I have had two GMT’s...
1st was dated 12/17, my current is dated 4/18. Of course, I have no idea of true build dates, but both gained about 30 seconds in a seven day period.

My current one is a mix of wearing and then on a winder at night in rotation with my sub. Set via the reference clock. 7 days later, it off over 35 seconds plus. My subc over the same time is like +1 or +2 max.

Brand new from an AD, both GMT’s exhibited this time gain.

FYI, they are both BLNRs
Any thoughts?

My new DJ, 6 days old, is running at +2.7 spd, which is slightly over spec. Based on experience with other high end watches I’m hopeful it will settle down. This is my first Rolex, so we’ll see.
