"Likes" for comments

I am also a member of AudioKarma, a forum for audio lovers. I'm into McIntosh. Their software allows viewers to put a "like" under the comment with their handle noted. A great way to to give a quick nod to a humorous comment or a nice photo. You can still leave a longer comment if you like.

is it about collecting likes, or having a discussion?

Feel free to like this comment if you agree

Would be a good Option to have . . But Folks with over 1K posts would only have 200.

Thats just not fair!

I got sick of social media and have deleted Facebook. Prefer to let conversations speak for themselves and draw your own conclusions without voting.

Having said that, a McIntosh I would love to hear. Quad IIs with ESLs were the best I ever heard but I never heard a McIntosh.

Joking aside, a "like" feature allows other members to show approval of a post without "littering" the thread with additional posts simply to show that approval (as opposed to adding actual commentary that furthers the discussion), which also results in all subscribed members getting notifications of those posts. It's not a bad idea, although in some web forums, it leads to a culture of ranking based on the number of likes a person has, and that's just silly. And God forbid we ever get reps. That's bad news.

I actually like TRF the way it is, nice and simple vBulletin.

Great idea along with a dislike button right?

I think it depends on the ethos of the forum. For instance, Omega Forums provides a like button, but no dislike, suggesting they want to keep things positive.

Without balance there is chaos, hence the reason that FaceBook is the joke that it is.

Not needed here, people should be able to articulate their opinions without clicking mindlessly on a button.

Yeah I dislike dislike and like buttons - but would like to squash them like bugs that hit the windshield.

We discussed it..

We don't want members world to revolve around how many "likes" they have. After all, this is a watch discussion forum, not a like forum.
