Cartier Roadster Chrono XL

I'm curious what people's thoughts are on the Cartier Roadster Chrono XL pictured below. I recently heard that the entire Roadster line has been discontinued by Cartier. Is this true? While Cartier isn't a Rolex, AP, or PP, I do consider the brand to be in the upper echelon.

My question to the community regards appreciation of this watch in years to come. Since it's discontinued, do people think the price will rise in the pre-owned market?

Any input would be sweet!

Thanks,
BostonRolex

I really don't understand why they would discontinue the roadster.

Makes zero sense to me.

I've always loved that specific model.

It's an icon to me.

Love the Roadster design, and love chronographs. But as chronographs go, it is not among my favorite movements.
The Roadster chronograph utilizes an ETA time movement (2892) with a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module attached to it. Both units are of high quality manufacture.
The ETA time movement is easily serviced. However, the chronograph module is not easily serviced. In the case of Omega, such chronograph modules needing repair are scrapped and replaced with a new module.
As an attachment, the chronograph module operates on the time module's power. With the chronograph running, the amplitude of the time movement drops, which affects accuracy.
Movements with chronograph functions integrated with the time movement tend to be more accurate and more easily serviced, from what I have read.

Bryan,

Agree with everything above other than my THC runs a consistent and constant +4 sec per day regardless if the chrono function is used or not.

To the OP, never been a fan of Roman numerals. However, always liked the Roadster design and it's an easy watch to identify quickly. If discontinued it could be a future value climber.

Bear in mind, this is more for the chronograph purist in some of us. As the design goes (granted a very subjective factor) I think it's fantastic. And as Dan commented, the effect the movement design has on timing is not a concern. It's a proven, high quality movement combo that should not discourage anyone seeking a beautiful, high quality watch!

Cartier has starting manufacturing roadster again. I saw it this weekend at their boutique at King of Prussia. I own one and love it. It gets lot more wrist time compared to my Rolex.

Are you sure about this??? It's not on their website. It's possible they just had a new leftover from a few years ago when it was discontinued...? These watches don't sell fast due to price.

That has to be new, old stock. Last price was $10,900 new.
