I suppose that we will all have years like you have just been through Paul, stay strong and think of the good times you had with the people that have passed.

Sincere condolences Paul. Here is a slightly different perspective that may help.

Nothing will ease the pain of losing a parent, but a long life is what we all aspire to. He was with the people he loved the most at the very end and the end came quickly. Not to be too morbid, but that is the exact way, I hope I go. Celebrate his life, man.

I had a bad year myself Paul. Everything was going great and then... BAM!, one of those lightning strikes out of nowhere. Here’s to a better 2019 for the both of us!
As they say, when you’re going through hell, keep going!

My condolences, Paul.

I lost my father on 23 December 2009.

He was 81.

I miss him, but I take heart in knowing that in his last months, following his cancer diagnosis, we spent more quality time together than we'd had in my lifetime.

That was a blessing that I'll always be thankful for.

Here is to a better year Paul. I lost my father last year and it has been a very hard year. For my brother and especially my mother. Like you, the sons are left picking up all the pieces. I miss my father tremendously. I try to comfort my mother but I simply cannot replace my fathers companionship and love that my mother had . Be strong, and if she cries, cry with her, if she laughs, laugh with her. I gave up trying to cheer her up, I found the best thing possible is doing the above.

Shitty year Paul. But, being the type of person who can find a pearl in a pile of sh!t, I am happy that your father’s last hour was spent laughing with the people he loved the most and then heading for another drink! May we all be so lucky.

Best wishes for your mom and you in the New Year!

Paul - I am so sorry to hear about everything that you and your family went through last year. A few years ago our family had it's own wave of very unfortunate events (death, sickness, and others). I have not lost a direct parent so I am not going to pretend to understand what you're feeling right now in that regard. I can understand the frustration though -- "when it rains, it pours" certainly comes to mind when I think about the misfortunes that we ultimately have to face throughout our lives. For some these times get sprinkled throughout your natural course of life -- others may get hit with a whole bunch at once.

I truly hope your 2019 is better than your 2018. I am sure you will be a strong, loving and supportive son to your mother and that she is lucky to have you by her side.

We're all here for you in whatever capacity you need. <3

Keep strong Paul and be thankful and enjoy what you do have. Everyday not enjoyed or relished is another day lost and we all have a limited number of days. I'm having one of the worst months I've had since my first divorce 16 years ago but I'll pull through, I have to at the very least for my sanity. You can do it my friend!
