LAWW Restored heirloom Datejust 160133

This was my fathers watch, he bought it new in 1986. It was worn daily until he passed in 1998. It was over polished and I had swapped the bezel/dial/date-wheel/crystal out 15 years ago. I kept the original bezel thankfully.

I have wanted to restore it for a long time, I didn’t know until I started reading the vintage forum it was possible to repair over polished cases. I sent it to LAWW to service/refinish the case, swap in a different dial, Rolex date-wheel, new crystal.

I think it turned out nice, I don’t feel bad for bastardizing my fathers watch anymore.

I'm not ordinarily one to pick errant nits but that watch is so close to perfect a champagne date wheel would not go amiss.

Richard,
would a champagne date wheel be the only one correct/used on a dial of this color dial? I thought that some of the silver/lighter dials were shipped with white date wheels. I appreciate you pointing it out, I can have it swapped out next time I send it out.

Gold markers came with gold wheel. You see many mismatched because of dial changes over the years.

To clarify, a white dial with gold markers could indeed come with a white wheel. A dial your color would have come with a light champagne wheel.

Richard,
So there were white, light champagne and dark champagne wheels? It sure is a pisser I used the wrong wheel. I need to see if I can find a wheel to swap.

I’m glad you pointed it out, I want this to be 100% correct.

Congrats

Thank you for that. Even though this is my watch now, that is what this project is about.

I saw a chart once that depicted 6 different shades of gold date discs. I suspect your dial would require a very light one.

This is my 1968 DJ which has the lightest gold disc I've ever seen.

Is this closer/better? I hope so. I wouldn’t wear this one with the wrong wheel in it, and just got it back.

It’s in rotation now which is satisfying... that I like it enough to leave the Tudor 76100 at home every other day.
