Own both Rolex and Omega watches. Both are superb. Though Rolex is by far the king, in my opinion, Omega is just as good a watch and the Speedmaster Professional truly a gem. You would not be disappointed with either one!

Omega watches are excellent quality and beautifully engineered pieces. There is little to chose between them and Omega. So it then boils down to which brand you like the look of. Personally, the only Omega I love from the current line up is the historic Speedmaster Pro with the hesalite crystal. The Seamaster and other Omega's leave me cold which is not the case with Rolex. Just a personal preference.

The other watches in the Omega line up are great, worthy pieces but just don't push my button. That's only a personal preference. As a brand Omega has a fabulous history and is worthy of as much respect as Rolex.

I had 3 Omegas - Seamaster GMT, De Ville GMT and Speedmaster. All were really good, classy and I liked them a lot.
If I had to choose something from current Omega line-up, it would be real struggle, because of almost all sports watches are too thick. Yes, they look good on photos, but when you put them on, they are thick and top heavy. Here's an expample - PO GMT vs my old SM GMT: |

I only really like the speedmaster line from omega
I am however very keen on the seamaster 1948 for which I’m on the wait list. I do also like speedy pro, moonwatch fois and CK editions. I own a FOIS and I’m due to receive a CK (pulsometer) and the seamaster 1948. I prefer the FOIS and CK due to their vintage sizing and wearability. Although vs Rolex their polishing and brushwork is not compatible. Neither is their durability on the pushers. The 1948 seamaster is something else. I can’t wait to receive the call for that. Also this years CK. I happen to love it and both will sit nicely next to to FOIS in my collection. Watches are going back to vintage sizing. Cases need to slim down significantly in my opinion. |

Ohhhhh - I love the MkII Racing juxtaposed against the massive chrome 426 Hemi air cleaner! How appropriate.

OK Now that I've revived a dead thread
What I was going to tell the OP was that it depends on what you are looking for from a watch. I've had many watches and currently have an old Rolex 18038 yellow gold day date. It reminds me of the ads by people like Red Adair (Google is your friend) in Rolex ads pointing at a burning oil derrick. For decades I thought that if someone really worked hard, and was successful at what they did, someday they would be entitled to wear a yellow gold Day Date Presidential. I had no clue as to whether it was a 3035, 3135, 3235 or whether it had a parachrome bleu spring, or anything. It just spelled "success" to me with an amount of field usability that Jaeger LeCoultre, Patek Phillippe, Blancpain and others (except maybe an Audemars Piaget Royal Oaks Offshore) didn't.
On the other hand, I live at the ocean, sail, and sometimes spend time in seawater (intentional or otherwise). I want to be able to tell time in two time zones when I am traveling. I want to only have one watch with me when I'm staying in hotel rooms and be able to see the time clearly in all conditions, day or night. And I want it to be able to take a hard hit, and not be so "rich guy" looking that I take the hard hit in the wrong neighborhood. Hard to beat an Omega 45.5 Planet Ocean Chronograph for that with the 9300 movement, the 15,000 gauss anti-magnetism, 2,000 feet of fall in the water resistance, and so on. So depending on the circumstances and what someone specifically wants or needs from a watch, both brands are the very best. |

My Omega vs Rolex thoughts come down to a chat between me and one of my best friends. In 2001 when we were much younger men, he purchases a Sub, he worked on the AD on price for about 6 months and paid around $2800 bucks for it. At the same time, my Omega Seamaster was arriving in the country and priced around $1695 to my best recollection. I didn't want the same watch as him, and I was being quoted over 3k for a Sub.
Now fast forward and we are at dinner a few months back with the wives, the watches are older than the wives so we tell them our tale of our obsession with watches. The bad part of the story is my Omega is still only worth about what it was new and his Sub is worth 2 to 3x what he paid for it. So while I love my Omega, when it came time to purchase a new watch a couple weeks ago I bought a Rolex this time. I was going to wait for the new Seamaster to come out, but I can already envision them selling grey market for less than MSRP and that upsetting me right from the jump. Even the Speedy sells for less than MSRP on here all the time. I just saw one for $3450 or so and that watch is an iconic classic. So for me, the Omega vs Rolex discussion hinges on the value, I don't want to purchase something that loses value like a used car. I will always have love for Omega and purchase used, but never new. |

I’m a big fan of both brands.
Rolex certainly holds value better. But the same reason they hold better value, there is a stigma that I don’t love. I very much like all of their watches.

Both are great brands. Omega has a ton of watches which I like because of the choices. I think most omegas are more stylish and cooler looking than Rolex. Rolex quality is second to none however.

Ask the people on the omega forum. I’d be interested to hear what they say

I believe you can’t have an Omega without a Rolex, and vice versa...

I do not universally like any one brand. I have and own both Rolex and omega, but get drawn to different models. I like Rolex for the subs and Daytona’s, iwc for the portugeese and their older pilot watches, breitling for the Navi, omega for the speedy pro, etc. I value having a versatile collection and purposely try to avoid too much emphasis on any one brand in my collection.

Yeah pretty meaningless trolling. Omega makes plenty of awesome pieces, but like all brands, makes models that many would consider "disappointing." Same with Rolex.
