panerai noisy?? and pins?

Hey I noticed the mov inside my panerai is a bit noisy compared to my other watches and some times i can feel the rotor spinning inside. is this normal for panerai watches? Also when i wind the watch my the crown it does not feel as smooth as my rolex lets say? it feels like a cheap watch would when you wind it kinda (not saying the panerai is cheap!!)

I know these are noob questions but put my mind to rest!!

Also in my 279 in the band they use push pins instead of set screws!! why o why!?!? for the money they should not be using push pins in the bracelet... it should always be set screws... what do you guys think of all this? any answers to all my questions?

The "rotor wobble" is perfectly normal. A trait of that movement, nothing wrong at all.
On the winding, yeah, it is more "clicky" that other movements, but normal again.
Push pins on the bracelet, are you talking the new quick release system, or simply spring bars?
EIther should have screws or a single pusher to release the pin.

Sorry I cannot answer. I am interested in Panerai, but I do not own one yet.

I do know that the Panerai straps are supposed to be very easy to change. Probably need for D-MAN, Launch Mini or other Panerai pros to chime in.

Launch Mini answered at the same time I was writing this

no spring bars as panerai does not use them on any of the new J series.. The push pins at the begining of the bracelet, where there are supposed to be set screw heads they are just the cheapy push pins that take a normal push pin gun to remove.. set screws are really nice as to push pins are just in there by presure, push pins are a very cheap way to hold links together on bracelets... most high end watch companys use set screws which is why i'm surprised for the money panerai uses push pins.

Must be the new style bracelets that use these friction pins, I know my old 221 and my old new to me 106 uses screws to remove links. Now, at the case it should have the new push button release system which is very proven by IWC and other companies. Personally I like the screws, but there have been many stories of double threading these screws and ruining the case. So there are arguments for both of them.

I did not know they went away from screws in the bracelets though, that is disappointing, but then again I am partial to older models.

well, I guess I cannot complain too much Dman as the push pins in mine are made of Ti so I would hope they will be strong and hold up.. but i'm with you, older and the more new models do have their trade off's.. my only worry is a push or pressure pin is more likely to start to slide out after time as a set screw will not if LockTite is placed on the threads prior to screwing into the links..

I agree it is more likely, though many companies like Omega have no real history of problems. All being equal, give me screws.

Dman check out the pictures i posted and you will see what these pins look like.. Also, with all of your panerai's you own, are most of yours noisy as well when wearing them? can you hear the and feel the rotor spinning? also does the crown feel a bit stiff when manually winding it compared to winding a rolex?

The auto's are always going to be a bit "clickier" than the Rolex, that is part of the tried and true workhorse Val 7750. The wobble is also very noticeable in the PAM auto movements, you actually get used to and look for it. Not a big deal at all and common in any watches that use this caliber.

I love the 'baccy dial too bro, true hearken back to the vintage days. Wear that new baby with pride and PASSION. The beauty of the bracelet models is that you have both options with it and the strap.

Thanks!
I cannot wait to get a bunch of straps, there are soo many different straps out there...
The only thing that does kill me about this watch is the Ti shows any little scratch.. it does not nick or dent like steel but it sure does scratch up easy..

Noisy movement

My Pam51 has a noisy movement on spinning the rotor. I am waiting for my new black leather band to arrive UPS so I can put it on. I got a watch repair toolkit from Amazon that is pretty comprehensive. Would I use it on my 18K GMT II? Probably not. Enjoy your new Panerai!
