Rolex 6602

I have acquired an old rolex in running but not great shape. it is a datejust. It has TransContinental printed on the dial. It has the style number 6602 with the 6609 crossed off on the inside of the watchback. Is this rare? Any idea what is worth? I am attaching photos.

Interesting. I believe 6609 is actually the correct model number for a DJ with a rotating bezel like yours, not 6602, but let's wait for the vintage DJ experts. TransContinental is likely a company logo (unless it is some rarity that I am unaware of), and the watch was given to an employee. The caseback stamp suggests the watch is from 1957.

That looks like a 12-hour bezel, too, which would also be unusual.

Here's one in better condition. If you Google Rolex Transcontinental (as I just did) there is a little bit of chatter about these out there, mainly on the Vintage Rolex Forum. Don't let anyone do any restoration/service work on that watch, nor take any offers, until you have had a lot more input here.

I think a model 6602 was a moon phase, probably used the same case. The 6609 should be a Thunderbird but most thunderbirds have bezels like an older yachtmaster. I like the bezel on this model. As said above, this is probably a service worked presentation watch for Trans Continental. That name is used in a lot of ways from airlines, to oil and the railroad. Who know which this particular logo is from.

I've never heard of this model/variation. I didn't know Rolex catered to the railroad industry as well. That is one of the coolest datejusts I've ever seen!

Very nice Datejust. If you decide to change the crystal, the Rolex crystal reference number is 25-117 or just 117.
