111

Hi,
I gave the 111 a closer look yesterday and liked the watch a lot. The only thing I'm not quit sure about is if I like that the watch does not have an automatic movement. What's your opinion on not having an automatic movement if I'm allowed to ask?

Manual winding calibers in Panerai watches are all about traditional watch making from them ! Anyway, the power reserve is enough to have 2 days without rewinding and the winding itself is easy with the Unitas-based caliber.
If you wish to get automatic, then you should look after the 312.
And if you wish to wait a few months, the 111 replacement watch, i.e. the 510 will hosts a new inhouse Panerai caliber with 8 days of power reserve.
;-)

I was skeptical when I bought my 372 as I have never had a manuel wind. Now I am a big fan. Something fun before I put it on

You gotta own one and experience it. It's an acquired taste for some folks who don't like the idea of winding it on a daily basis.

I love winding mine plus, it doesn't require too much of an effort to wind it up.

Great replies.....thanks a lot for that. The watch looks beautiful. I'm also a little wondering if the polished case will be a scratch magnet. I know it's a watch and tool but do love if they look prestine!

It's part of the romance of owning a Panerai.

It'll look even better with scratches or (since it's entirely polished) you can go nuts with Cape Cod cloth to keep it pristine.

The 111 is arguably the only Panerai you need

The scratches might drive you nuts. A highly polished watch like that one will get some level of scratches if you wear it -- can you live with that? If not, might opt for a model more brushed than polished.

I was torn myself and went manual because of the slightly thinner case and for some reason I feel it matches the simple dial better. Also it is a big change from my Rolex.

It's been my one Panerai for years now and I would concur.

Unless I actually get the call on the 507 it'll probably remain my one and only.

Many fine watches do not have an automatic movement. The 111 is a fine watch and like others said manual winding a movement is something very satisfying.

This means that the 111 stop his production?

I have an H series 111. I don't mind winding the watch at all. As others have said its kind of a 'ritual'. I did want an automatic Pam, so I ended up getting a 24. I say go for the 111! The clear case back is also great to look at as you're winding it.
