90s Tudor Poll: Sub or Chronotime
I'm looking at two 90s Tudors and wanted to take a poll to see which of the two makes more sense to go with. The watches are a 79170 Tudor Chronotime and a black dial 79190 Sub.
If you had to choose, which one would you go with and why? |

79170, because it was the largest Rolex Oyster case made at the time, includes a rotating bezel to use for diving, simple timer, or second time zone. Too many extra useful features to pass up the Chronotime.

I think those Tudor subs from this era are amazing. I prefer them to the rolexes, the matte dials, lack of gold surrounding the plots, ease of repair, they have it all. And they sell for black bay money too!

I've had a Snowflake (94110) and a Big Block (79160). For me, the Snowflake was the winner (I know you're looking at the 79190). I found the Big Block was too thick for my 6.75 inch wrist and it bugged me that it couldn't slip under my shirt cuff. Also, the Valjoux 7750 wobble from the rotor was a bit of an annoyance too (I know others don't mind it).
So 79190 all the way. |

I think the 79190 has surpassed Black Bay money nowadays. It looks like the average 79190 is $6,000 while Black Bays can still be found for under $3000.

I'll take a couple off your hands if that is the case! Perhaps 2 years ago, I'd agree that the vintage Tudor subs were not much more than a new BB but nowadays, not only are they hard to find in nice condition, they are trading well over £5k. I've a lovely black 79090 and this thread has just reminded me to get it out of the winder and onto my wrist.
