you know, everyone is saying just out-right "don't sell the pepsi" because it isn't made anymore. However, everyone's situation is different and if you're not feeling the 16710 then it is what it is.

However, I would encourage you to buy the Explorer I first and try it on for awhile if you're financially able to. This gives you a great side-by-side comparison to see which watch you prefer. Additionally, both the Explorer / GMT should have decent liquidity where you can sell it at a decent price without too much concern.

Regarding the fact that they "don't make the pepsi anymore", while that may be true I feel you can always find one on the used/secondary market without too much trouble. So at the end of the day take some calculated risks while keeping your options open and you'll figure out which watch is the one for you.

Post some pics of your GMT if you can!

Do not let your mind entertain thoughts of selling a Pepsi. Switch gears immediately and think of something else.

I am not a GMT fan but I would NEVER sell a GMT to buy an Explorer. You will definitely regret that, I promise you.

If you can afford both, buy the Explorer and keep the GMT. If finances don't allow I would just keep the GMT and save up for the Explorer at a later date.

It cannot be reiterated enough.

Don't sell that Pepsi.

Maybe the cabin fever clouding your sensorium, but if you sell, when you come to your senses, you will grieve mightily.

Beaten Down? Excuse me?
You received the best advice on the internet. Maybe it wasn't what you expected, but TRF is all about helping and giving solid info to those who ask.
You weren't 'beaten down', you were 'smartened up'.
Your decision to keep the 5 digit GMT is very sensible, as said, you'd miss it as soon as it was gone.
Good luck in your hunt for an Explorer.

Oh this thread went the way I thought it would. And I know keeping the GMT is best. I'm really lucky to have such a nice watch. I went and dug out the original receipt from back when I bought it. I thought I had it longer than I have. I bought it back in June of 2009 for a whopping $3308 bucks! Helluva a deal huh?

I guess most would not do what I would suggest which is to sell the GMT and get whatever you want. I like newer watches so I would buy, sell and trade, them if I wanted another watch. The GMT is not unique and rare that you can not replace it, just expect to pay more for a nice condition full set as time goes by. For me the hobby is to experience the watches and to enjoy as many as you can, or you can collect watches and keep them in a box and look at them from time to time.

I sold a modern Pepsi and bought an Explorer. More comfortable and nothing gratuitous. I travel for work a lot and still didn’t need the 24-hr hand.

It’s so much more subtle, which is a plus for how I dress.

To each his own, both great but the super case was meh.

Jim Cramer would say DON’T SELL, DON’T SELL, DON’T SELL....
The Pepsi GMT is an APPRECIATING ASSET - the 39mm explorer and 42mm explorer 2 are nice - but they don’t have the same pedigree nor will they accelerate in value like your 20 year old Pepsi will. DON’T SELL!!!
My suggestion is that if you have some excess cash, by all means get one of the explorers....

If you want subtle buy a LN. I’d never in a million years ever take an explorer before any GMT Master. There is no comparison in my opinion and the market agrees with me.

I would say always add, never subtract. I do understand how after wearing the same watch for a long time, one could get bored of it, but just change it up and the Pepsi will speak to you again after a bit.

No shame in wanting a new, modern reference though. So I'd check out the Explorer, see how it wears, and add it when it makes sense if you end up liking it.

The only modern Ford's worth buying are Mustangs (V8 of course!) and the F Series trucks.

Humor aside....GMT has far more functionality. Why not keep it and purchase the Explorer also? Totally different look.
