As far the Aquatimer, that line needs some kind of direction. For one, I don't like chronographs on dive watches. I think that's a lot of bloat that should be cut out immediately. I do like the rubberized Galapagos offering. I would like to see that on a simple, time only Aquatimer at a slightly smaller size. How they design it, whether they continue with an internal versus external rotating bezel, that's up to them. I think the idea of having a super-compressor case (as they were one of the few brands to roll it out at the same time alongside JLC and others).

I also have seen numerous complaints about their quick change strap system, especially in the Aquatimer. I'm personally not a fan. I prefer my dive watches to be as secure as possible.

Genta designed the RO in one night, The Nautilus in 5min and the Ingenieur in 5 seconds while drunk.

Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. I totally don’t understand what they are doing over there. Even the GP Laureato is now going for over 20K! IWC has gold in their hands, but decided to just do nothing with it. Weird business strategy.

IWC amplifies this sport aesthetic by brushing the cases, using matte dials, and what some would consider very conservative design.

I do agree that the Ingenieur could do better to bridge that tool/luxury divide. We have a luxury design, but a tool purpose. I think IWC took a step in the wrong direction when they oversized the Ingenieur, tied it into collaborations with automakers, etc. So to your point, restraint in sportiness should be considered.

I also don't think that they should try to make it another Royal Oak. It really should be marketed as a strong anti-magnetic, conservative, multi-purpose watch with a beautiful history design language that can equally make it versatile as an Aqua Terra or Datejust would be.

Obviously these are just my opinions. I'm actually holding a spot in my collection open right now to see what we get (if anything) from this particular line when IWC releases their new stuff in the coming weeks.
I agree partially. The Pilot and Aquatimer are super toolish, but the Portofino and Da Vinci are super dressy. The Portugieser is a “cool” dresser so they could easily make the Ingenieur a dressy sports watch (which the current line actually is). Aaah well, maybe they will :)

So again only Pilots. I’m very disappointed in IWC and will look elsewhere for the time being.

IWC disappoints this year with more of the same. The Pilot line is way too bloated.

The only positive takeaway here is that IWC, like many other brands these days, does tend to release things throughout the year. It's plausible that they are using Watches and Wonders to release their top sellers and may more quietly overhaul the Ingenieur later in the year. That said, it's probably wishful thinking. IWC only seems to care about the Pilot and Portuguese.

Hold up. I take back my take back. May still happen. I have an invite for a screening tomorrow that is likely to include other new releases. I will update after.

Would be sweet to see something new from them!

I still keep hoping for a redesign of the aquatimer as well.

The older ING designs were perfect. Would love to see IWC get back the the Genta styling.

The Omega Globemaster Constellation is an updated Gerald Genta design.
Although I prefer the original Pie Pan design with dog leg lugs.

just saw the new catalog on the new Genta Ingenieur from the iwc boutique
they retro-ed it, bringing the original designs back
4 models, 3 steel, 1 titanium
it's pretty sick, can't wait for the news to break during watches and wonder 2023.

And did you like the design? Does it resemble the photos above or is it different? Just wondering if the bracelet has a good taper :)

All this talk about the Ingenieur and not one reference to the classic 3227-01? For shame.

yes i already have my name on it for 1 of the models
i believe its 40mm or might be 41mm.
it has the integrated bracelet with the new 5 days PR in house self winding movement. it's quite similar to the original genta design, basically a retro-ed. a fully replacement of the current line.

from the usual black/white dial, there's a special color dial which i hope it's sick in real life when they announce the piece.

the titanium version is all brushed matte look
