I've recently discovered the magic of NATO straps, to the point where I made a video about it.

1) Take 2 Quarters and clamp them on both sides of the strap with a vice grip pliers. Of course right at the point you want to cut it.

2) Take a pair of scissors and cut the material using the edge of the quarters as a guide. Get right up against the edge until you can't trim any more.

3) While still clamped between the quarters, take a lighter and melt the edges. You can use your fingers to mold the edges while the nylon is still hot.

Now you have a curved edge with a factory look. I also cut off the extra piece of strap that runs under the watch head. I just like the watch to fit closer to my wrist.
x2. This is the way to do it.

Plus remove all the keepers except the one that the strap slips under and leave just enough strap length to double back.

What I do find disturbing is the lack of pictures on this thread.
Damn, those NATO straps look fantastic on your watches. Thanks for the pix!

You guys are hilarious! As a newbie I speak for many of us when I say thank you for putting up with our questions. I completely sympathize that you've heard them a hundred times before. I searched 'nato' to pull up this thread and it's super helpful. I'm still not sure what size to order for my blnr but have a feeling it's answered here somewhere.

Thanks to this amazing forum! Thank you, TRF!

I don't mean to offend anyone but I just can't find any virtue whatever to the NATO straps.

Thankfully, Rolex watches are all delivered with great bracelets which reduces the temptation to go NATO to a minimum
. As a matter of fact, in the case of Patek Philippe, Blancpain and other watches which are worn with straps, I usually order custom Rousseau straps for a better fit.

All opinions or efforts to enlighten me are welcome, hateful or not.
I'm surprised nobody has flagged this watch up, the British RM/RN Milsub. Intended to be worn solely on a Nato, infact the spring bars were changed to solid bars and this fantastic Rolex watch would just look wrong on anything else. You can keep your new flash models, I'd prefer one of these any day of the week.

Yeah, Rolex bracelets, the most maligned bracelets in the history of watches, mean no experimenting with NATOs? How many threads on here shit on Rolex bracelets? Except the new ones. I agree that there are some models that preclude NATO, I can't see any NATO that makes my 16660 more comfortable, but for most of the 40 or 42, sky's the limit! I'm tempted to put a perlon on my JLC Grande Reverso Sun Moon. No shame in the fabric game.

I totally missed the point lol. I was mistakenly making reference to Theurbancomandos response, not the OP. Sorry- I'm new lol. I too love NATOS.

I tend to feel that the older and smaller the watch is, the better it looks on a NATO. Watches that look best on NATOs are ones so old that the original bracelet is no longer in one piece. The newer models have larger cases and don't look as well proportioned on what is really a very thin strap.
