Zenith challenger to the Daytona

Was just wondering what people’s thoughts are towards this new Zenith release? Certainly some similarities to the Daytona as far as the bezel, PCLs go, albeit from a highly respected brand with their own strong heritage.

Would anyone who’s been on the list for a daytona switch to this? Or buy it as placeholder for when they get the call (if ever)?

I don't like the Daytona but I like the Zenith alot. I even like the 4:30 date which is rare. Calling it a placeholder for the Daytona is plain weird.

Just to clarify I don’t consider it a placeholder, in fact I prefer it. Just with the extreme demand for a Daytona I wonder if some would buy it until they could source a Daytona at retail.

ofcourse not
this is a different watch, you could also ask
would you buy a breguet XXI or Speedmaster or ... until you get the Daytona

I have black and white daytona and ordered that Zenith because I like it even more than my Daytona's. And concerning the movement its much more interesting.
Like I said already before. watch snob ( and unfortunately there are too many of these ) will prefer the Daytona cause he doesn't know better.
If you know some things about watches you'll probably like or dislike both. And that's because of the looks. But understanding the technical point you will love both.

I think there are more differences than similarities, with Daytona.
I like it quite a lot (especially the white dial on blue rubber strap).

Don’t see it as “a substitute to a Daytona / while waiting for a Daytona to be delivered” watch like some are saying, but rather as an alternative chrono watch which at least technically is superior to it in many aspects.

TRF is a Rolex forum and obviously the majority will see it as a copy of the beloved Daytona, which has a very strong fan club / cult but in reality Zenith has its chronograph roots that goes back for decades, even being Rolex choice as the engine for their new 16520 Daytona when they were not capable / ready to built a robust modern chronograph movement of their own.

Superior movement, legible dial, date function, nice size, great history....but, let down a bit by the similarities with the Daytona (look just in this thread how easily it can be dismissed ).

Just a slightly different bracelet and clasp would have gone a long way to elevating this piece, IMHO.

agree. it is simply because it has a similar clasp style and a ceramic bezel. that is why people are drawing comparisons.

even if i were to buy a daytona it would be gold on full PM bracelet at this point - not SS.

i agree. if this ends up being 6-7k on the used market watch out though. i think i will buy it. i think even over the new speedmaster sapphire sandwich. i just like the functionality and look better. it is more modern.

i prefer the black so i think it will be had for those prices. let it cool off a bit and i will see what happens with W&W this year. really for me i am between a gold rolex (and selling a few watches), another tudor or this at the moment.
