AP doesn't respond to Rolex. That's not how it works.

Also, I didn't really see much heat from Rolex.

Yeah what? Rolex feels like a giant flop this year.

I can't imagine how banged up that daytona bezel edge is going to get on the gold models. Not sure what they were thinking there.

The new Ti Yachtmaster is pretty cool, although not sure if any better then the Ti Tudor diver. I do really like the new dial colors on the skydweller.

If I wasn’t spending all my money at AP, I’d try to get the Ti Yachtmaster. But overall it’s the same glacial evolution at Rolex as always. I doubt very much AP feels any pressure to “respond”.

AP has launched a TON of outstanding models this year (Starwheel, new codes in new materials with new dials), new tourb, new concept, new Brick in ceramic, new ultracomp etc etc...

The boutiques are buzzing, can't even get a Starwheel if you don't own a code previously and new codes are.highly sought after with waitlists. Add to boot they only make 45k watches per year.

Why would they respond to Rolex which churns out watches like widgets and where the "heat" is a slightly revised Daytona face and a GMT in (IMO) ugly yellow gold...?! That's barely any news at all. I'd imagine their design department can do a years worth of "design updates" in about 2 weeks and then call it for the rest of the year

Lol this was a joke post. I’m just waiting for some more ROO models and the 39mm Code and getting impatient

Other than a green dial SkyD and the transparent case back Platona, nothing Rolex released got my interest. A flop IMO.

I think the Platona with the transparent case back is the wrong decision. Unless Rolex decided to all of a sudden develop their finishing department, the finishing will be subpar compared to the likes of AP, PP and some independents. Why they wanted to highlight their weakness is something that astounds me.

Of course the finishing is subpar compared to the likes of AP/PP. No argument there. I don't think they are trying to show off their finishing by any stretch of the imagination. An open case back is something new for them and I think it's interesting.

Rolex release was kinda meh. The YM titanium is hot but no glide lock was dumb. The gold jubilee bracelet is nice. I don't think AP is hinging what they do on Rolex.

AP already had a super strong releases.
I am biased, but I think they are in a different league.
Even compared to Patek, RD4 is far more wearable and impressive compared to the grand complication pieces that Patek released today.

I expect new releases pretty soon given the extensive updates of the website last week.

It was hard to see that you were joking lol.

That said, Rolex reminds me of Apple - solid products with small improvements around edges and that’s largely what happened.

Exhibition caseback on platona is kinda cool but it will underwhelm compared to Lange or even AP

They are both killer releases and I’m definitely going to get both. I’ll get a Steel Daytona too as I like the Zenith like styling cues and a new 4131 movement too.

And who would have thought that the ugly Yachtmaster could actually look ok, eventually, in Titanium.

I like the black 1908, and to be honest, I wish AP would bring something of a traditional dress line back, but I can understand why they don't at this point. Other than that, yeah...zzz

the titanium yachmaster, some of those playful OPs, and the new caseback on plat Daytona are pretty nice imo.

nothing too revolutionary, but if Rolex starts to focus more on decorating it's movements, that could be a huge game changer since we all know they make some of the most robust and reliable movements already

Rolex could save cost a bit more with open caseback and, still, no one could blame on increased price too. Love the Green Skydweller anyway.

Not to sound bias, but I love the three brands of PP, AP and Rolex (I rank them in my order of prestige) but AP kills it this year with their releases.

Rolex is not all that bad, but PP really quite disappointing...I expect better releases from them later this year.

Do any of the AP insiders know if we can expect some new watches in the upcoming days?

Why does AP need to respond to Rolex launch? Also it took Rolex 90 yrs to have open case back!
