I think its splitting hairs. I find the Sub and GMT wear nearly the same when switching back and forth. The shorter GMT clasp might be a touch more comfortable but the Sub with Glidelock gets the fit dialed in perfect. My Sub is the 40mm although I wore a friends Sub41 for the day and he wore my Sub40 and after 20 minutes it felt the same.

Own both. The GMT has a thicker slab but thinner caseback, while the Sub has a slimmer side slab and a thicker caseback. You end up with the same thickness, but they wear slightly different. The GMT has the remnants of supercase blocky design, so it’s a 40mm that is trying to look larger. And the redesigned Sub is a 41 that makes an effort to look smaller, and fits great. The 21mm lug works wonders in this sense. I was suspicious of it, but now I definetely see the improvement in wearability, whereas the GMT feels a bit top heavy at times. It is possible that the GMT will go the same way in the future, but I do like having different cases for the two models.

Sub41 is a bit of pancake. They grew the bracelet into the case. All that bracelet width makes the watch look wider in diameter. Sub is a really wide watch these days.

Get the 40mm GMT.

It’s a dead heat. Or at least it’s like the normal internet: you get all the answers.

Hardly anyone posting has given their wrist measurements with their opinion, which makes it all completely impossible to align recommendations with your own requirements.

It’s time Rolex shrunk these things a mm or two and got back to watches that actually fit most people, rather than watches that are really too big for the majority if you are brutally honest.

Both are very comfortable if sized properly.

The GMT will wear smaller. I enjoy the size and feel of the new Sub41. Fits me better than the GMT (although I love the CHNR…truly a top notch watch!)

GMT vs Sub 41 - wearability

Owned both, only the GMT remains.

While not uncomfortable by any stretch, the Sub is just a bit too big and thick for my tastes.

Totally agree, does anyone really need 20mm of adjustment that the humongous Sub 41 has? At a minimum Rolex should offer the Sub in different sizes like everybody else does, including them with the Explorer

It really mostly comes down to the caseback IMO. The sub has a deeper conical shaped caseback which raises the watch off the rest slightly. The GMTs is flatter.

It’ll depend on your wrist and wearing preference. I prefer flatter casebacks in general as the watch head feels more “planted” on the wrist ymmv

I like my gmt’s better. Caseback is thinner and clasp is smaller than the glidelock. I really don’t use the glide lock that much whereas i use the easy link, especially in the afternoons, often. I have a flat 7.5” wrist. I think it does depend on the wearers wrist though

GMT vs Sub 41 - wearability

Own a Sub41 and wears fine for me.
FWIW The ExplorerII (22 which I gave to my son) wears more comfortably.

And IMO there is not much difference between glide-lock and easy-link. Both give sufficient space by temporarily thick wrists.
(As long as you are not a diver….)

I own BLRO on Oyster and Submariner.

The GMT is more comfortable wear (smaller clasp, larger taper) but the Sub has glidelock - so I’d call it a tie. Honestly, both are incredible and comfort has never been an issue.

GMT is slightly thinner due to the case back, so it sits closer to the wrist. It also wears slightly smaller mainly due to the bracelet size.
Both are extremely comfortable and I have nothing negative to add about either one.

I have heard mixed reviews. I have read online that the GMT is much thinner and the tapered bracelet/smaller clasp makes the watch feel noticeably thinner on the wrist.

I have also heard from a few friends who own both say that they wear identical if the GMT is on oyster.

Anybody here lucky enough to own both have any insight? Do they wear similar or completely different

If you can own them both you will see no difference unless you make one your favorite

The Sub is less bulky while the GMT is slightly smaller on the wrist

My BLNR on jubilee was just a bit more comfortable than the sub41. Maybe because of the jubilee or thinner case, or both. Not enough to make decision either way.

I've always preferred how the Sub wears. The GMT always feels a bit small and I find the taper of the case to the bracelet slightly off.

Not enough difference for me to barely notice. Love them both. Maybe the GMT wears slightly lighter/smaller.

I have Pepsi on jubilee and 41mm sub and, IMO, the Pepsi wears much better (smaller) on my small 6.00-6.25” wrist.

It also matters which metal between the 904L vs PM. The previous gen WG sub 116619LB wears noticeably more comfortable than the WG GMT 126719 BLRO.

It's hard to put into words but the proportions, and the weight distribution of the gold of the last generation sub and just how it sits and moves on my wrist throughout the day feels much better.

My wrist is 7 inches.

I have both. The. GMT wears smaller and imo has the better proportions for my wrist. But, a glide lock is unbeatable. Hard for me to find the perfect bracelet fit with my gmt master. Always have the perfect fit with the sub.

Yes, that.

Is glidelock that decisive of a bracelet feature?
I bought a sub and sold it before giving it much of a chance, but the glidelock clasp was too large for my wrist.

GMT vs Sub 41 - wearability

I have a GMT BLNR on jubilee and a Submariner. If someone put a blindfold on me and then put one of those watches on my wrist, I’m not sure I could tell you which one it is. lol

After extensively testing both I can comfortably say for my 7” flat wrist the GMT on Jubilee is more comfortable for a host of reasons. The jubilee bracelet does flow effortlessly over the wrist and breaths extremely well. That factor over the oyster could be reason alone but there were other factors for me.
The wider and flatter case back of the GMT will always displace the case weight more comfortable. This is why the Daytona is still the king of comfort in the Rolex catalog.
The clasp is smaller, thinner and lighter weight allowing the entire watch to almost disappear. I noticed the comfort difference when I lost some more weight and the Sub41 clasp started to feel on the bulkier side. The GMT also doesn’t need to be sized exactly to be comfortable which also gives it an edge when your wrist is expanding or contracting.
As a dive watch the Sub41 is very comfortable and versatile with the glidelock and domed case back for its higher WR does come with the added issues I mentioned above.
