question about relume hands on vintage a sub

I recently acquired a 16613 slate serti, That belong to my father for many years, circa production 96-97. The hands do not glow any more. Is this normal for a vintage rolex sub? I was told by a friend who owns a vintage rolex, not to relume the hands. As, It will take value away from the watch. The watch is fully complete with box and paper. My father only wore the watch a few times over the years. I would like the watch to be fully functional. It has never been serviced , stills keeps excellent time. Thank you for any suggestions or comments.

Lovely watch and the hands and lume plots are unlikely to still glow. Purists will say leave it as is because it hurts value, but if you’re never selling it and will wear it, then there’s a choice, have it serviced by Rolex who can replace the hands, buy newer hands from a watchmaker and keep originals or find a specialist to relume the hands.

Hi Charlie,

Welcome to TRF.

Can you put up a pix off your Serti Sub?

Nice model.

If I owned it I would have Rolex service it.
