Ceramic did NOT even last a year

Hey I am back what do you know. 6 month break although I gave in a few months back and posted under Mulder for a few days.

Long story for ya’ll so I will try to make it short. I am sure some have seen my posts and seen how I use my watch for everything. Well Christmas Morning my 13 year niece and her 18 year old brother were fighting at the house and I intervened as my niece was swinging a necklace of keys and key chains and the GMT took the brunt of it. I was surprised to find that there was no damage as she hit it pretty hard. I did not notice this for a few days and man my ceramic did not even last a year. Not too bad to go out and spend who knows how much so I will wait for it to get a little more beat up.

Do you guys think there is any way to turn this in under warrantee with a little white lie of not sure what happened to it?

Now i think this is when the old metal inserts would have held up a little better???

Oh well what do you do I guess next time i will let him kick her butt...

In all fairness it has withstood many home improvements, trench excavations, pipe laying, brazing, welding, soldering, hanging doors, and so much more. I posted a lot of pictures of things I have done with it. I got a lot of mixed reviews.

I heard a ceramic bezel can/does cost more than a pretty penny, close to around a grand maybe?!? Good luck and hope you find a replacement bezel soon.

Bummer...Search the old posts, I do not think a new bezel is very expensive.

Yes she is still alive. She feels a little bad but I do not think she knows how expensive the watch is.

I would be curious to find out how much they run. If it is 100 bucks I’ll do it tomorrow if it is 5-600 well I will be waiting for a while.

Man that sucks! I find it odd that there is no damage to the crystal when the chunk is missing right next to it on the bezel.

There must have been some sort of fault in the bezel or something. Please let us know how the replacement process works out for you!

Sorry that happened!

sorry, a little late to the party....

but, i think the rolesor's point is key....

if i wanted rolex to replace it at no cost, i would make a big stink about how the crystal is not damaged, so, OBVIOUSLY, i didn't abuse the watch. there was something wrong with the bezel, and, SURELY rolex can't be telling me that somehow an impact that would not damage the crystal at all can crack the new-and-improved bezel, the very bezel i spent so much money to acquire, and now i have to pay to replace it....

I would take the time to write to Rolex and send your watch in for warranty repair. This certainly doesn't look good for their reputation- especially based on the claims of the durability of the ceramic bezel and it's scratch resistant property. Perhaps this will be interpreted as a manufacturer's defect and be replaced at no cost. Just being optimistic for you! It's worth a shot before spending $500+ Good luck.

i was thinking the same thing, why wouldn't they repair it under warranty? just say it broke off and you have no idea

It took me a few minutes to see the damage, but now that I see it I understand the concern.

It seems to me the impact as described should not have done this type of damage, and especially in the location and manner of the damage.

I would tell Rolex the truth of the matter, and I would expect Rolex to make it right.

If Rolex chalked it up to abuse, then I'd consider it an honorable scar, and I'd just live with it until I got ready for a major service, and then I'd replace it.

Scratch resistant but not scratch proof, like most things hit it hard enough it will damage ceramic is brittle.Another case where the new ceramic is not always better myself would have to live with it,if the insert costs say over $200.And would doubt if damage caused by a third party would be covered, but there is no harm in trying good luck.

Do you really think a ceramic bezel, or any bezel, should not have any damage after hitting it with a "swinging necklace of keys"? Seriously, that's like whipping a hammer at it and acting shocked when the bezel breaks! The ceramic is made to be scratch resistant, fade resistant, and durable, WHICH IT IS! That doesn't mean it's impervious to major blunt force with metal objects! Blaming Rolex is totally ridiculous!

hmm, me hears some reality !
I too think its utterly redicurous/ludicrous/unreasonable, to try and sell ROLEX on performing warranty work on something that clearly is not a result of fx of the part !
Bad form !

I seem to remember Rolex's web site saying the ceramic is virtually indestructible. Check it out, and if it does, see if they will do it for free. I believe it is around $900 and up. You would want one from you AD. I would never buy one from ebay.

Ceramic Bezel

I had the bezel on my TT GMT IIc changed at the old BH RSC (before it closed) and it cost about $550. It took only a few days to order the bezel and they installed it in just a few minutes while I waited for it. The bezel did not crack, but the gold that filled the 12 o'clock index marker had scratched off enough to look pretty bad. I imagine the SS bezel w/the platinum filled numbers will cost about the same.
