The thing is, if we want others to respect our opinions, we then have to be respectful of others opinions as well. In other words respect the rights of others to voice their views but feel free to diss their views if you don't agree. Never take it, or dish it out, on a personal level. To me, the point is to learn from the exchange, stay on topic, not important who is right or wrong. As the OP I asked for opinions and that's what I got. Some I agree with, some not so much

It appears the error dial is across all Daytona models , now wondering for what length of time it occurred.

Well said, sir.

Also, as I look at more and more of these posted pictures, they're ALL starting to look a little off now. lol Maybe an optical illusion...?

Cosmogr aph

I purchased a 116520 White dial in May of 2014 new from a AD and I quickly noticed the dial text font oddity despite my wife telling me that I was nuts. There is a space between R and A in COSMOGR APH with the APH also appearing to rise and like the right side of the word is not level. I dont see how this could be an accident because the precision and quality control is off the chart. Does anyone have a date range from when it introduced itself to its elimination?

I tend to notice these things with my eagle eye vision and apparent eye for patterns.
I wouldn't want it on my watch. No loupe needed for this one.

What I've realized by viewing hi-res dial images online and using a loupe to look at my own Rolex is that we should do ourselves a favor and not look so closely.

Examining a dial with a loupe will show LOTS of things that aren't perfect and make you realize that there isn't a perfect attention to detail by Rolex.

But, my Savior Jesus Christ is the only perfection I'm ever aware of existing. Thank God for the Prince of Peace.

An "error" dial would be an actual error, not simply a font/style change. The tamps that ink the dials have a limited life, and another needs to be made to take it's place; there are many, many tamps used throughout a dial production life span. Likely there were thousands of dials that used that particular tamp, or sequence of tamps..

This is right there with the non-existent GMT II "error" dials.

Now, if somebody had mounted the tamp in upside down for a few dials - that would be an error..

Bill

There is always going to be opposing views in a large forum, it is simply a fact of life.

Yes it is interesting to note a minor imperfection on a watch that is renowned for perfection but it is also reasonable for someone to say "so who bloody cares".

Someone suggested that the imperfection may lead to the watch becoming collectible and someone else is perfectly entitled to say it won't.

If no one challenges views or puts forward an opposite view, the forum would soon become sterile and mega boring and we all learn from a constructive discussion.

Regards

Mick

These APH Daytona dials are now going for a serious premium. Seems imperfections are still in favour.

It’s an update that shows that contrary to popular opinion at the time the APH error now seems to be getting a premium vs non APH dials. I was bored and searched 116520 APH error and was surprised at the prices. An alternative to the sky is falling posts of late.

My thought is that you should send it back, because it might be of diminishing value in the nearest future.

Rarity is all in the eye of the beholder. Rarity is the one of the underpinnings of the Rolex market. Personally I think this and other minor font changes or errors are not noteworthy but I don’t set the prices.

Since I paid $7500 US BNIB I think I will keep it. No worries.
