"Refurbished" Vintage Rolex.

Is a refurbished vintage rolex (e.g., rolex martini) considered a fake? At what point would it become a fake?

Thanks

A Rolex Martini is a modified 116520 with a black finish to the case and bracelet which is not vintage and was not modified by Rolex. Rolex would consider the watch as a non original fake.

Personally I wouldn't consider this to be "fake". Fake in my mind is something willingly trying to pretend to be something genuine. For example when people produce reproduction dials and try to pass them off as original, that's a fake.

With these customised Rolex models it's like putting different wheels on your car. The car is the same, thing but is not original any more. I haven't even seen a customised Rolex I liked.

I second that!

But you never know how much of the orig watch was swapped. It begs the question of taking an original thing and swapping out 60% of it... do you have a whole new watch? It’s called the Ship of Thesus concept. Car customized Boyd coddington got into legal trouble for this in California. I find the issue fascinating. Read it and it gives you insight into the question and answer to ponder

This, although I think some customized Rolexes are likeable. One thing I believe differentiates fakes from customized is the ability to quickly and easily reverse the customization. Examples are display casebacks and bezel inserts not original to the reference.

It's weird being the same age as old people.

This is the watch I'm questioning, described as "refurbished".

Appreciate your comments.

Im not sure any of the watch was ever a Rolex. The last picture of the movement is horrible. They printed Rolex on the wheel. The real movements were engraved. This looks like an Bombay eBay special.

Looks like an FHF movement. Unrelated to Rolex IMO.
