Finally got a GMT Master II 16710! (LONG)

Well my SS GMT Master II 16710 Coke finally arrived today, after effectively an 8 month search.
I originally looked to get a 16710 for my birthday last July, but found out that they had been discontinued. My fav dealers said it was practically impossible to find them anymore. So i turned my attention to the OMega Seamaster GMT, which i found out had also been discontinued!!! So my other GMT choice was the Chopard Mille Miglia GMT Chrono which i ended up buying. It is a very cool looking watch and you dont see many people wearing chopard even in a town like NYC. It especially looks good on the tire tread rubber strap.

Fast forward 6 months and i got promoted at work, so decided to treat myself to another watch. I noticed on this forum and TZ that some folks had managed to find some 16710's at AD's in the meantime so i decided to give it another shot!

It was a pure war of attrition. I wanted to buy from an AD so I went to the Rolex Website and started calling dealers. Well after calling close to 100 dealers i hit pay dirt. (kind of) I really wanted a Pepsi bezel, but that was impossible. I did find a dealer that had one model left. A BNIB Z series Coke 16710. I snapped it up right away. Although i had to jump through more hoops than a circus animal because the dealer REALLY didnt want to sell to someone over the phone. Finally managed to close the deal and the watch is on my wrist now.

The added bonus.......its a 3186 Movt. Yes it passed the wiggle test and moves 8hrs per revolution. I would have bought it regardless of 3185/3186 movt, But its a nice to have.

Now just gotta get myself an original Pepsi insert from fellow forummer Steve Mulholland.

Cant post any pics yet since my wife has the camera and she is at the in-laws!

As a side note i did come across some interesting situation. One dealer said he had a Coke left. An "F"Series BNIB. And he wanted 7000 for it. I said you want to charge the MSRP of a GMT IIc for a watch that has been sitting on your shelf for years? Good luck!

Sorry for the long post. I felt like sharing!
