Noise when manually winding watch.

Hi everyone, my watch makes a grinding noise when you're winding it. Is this normal?

I wouldn't call mine a grinding noise - that may be sign that it's due for service. Mine's more of a smooth clicking.

Same here, its like winding up a wind-up doll. It will click.

Well maybe grinding was the wrong word. It kinda sounds like a mix of the wind blowing and a snake hissing. (It just got serviced)

Is this normal?

I am not trying to be a wise guy here, but you have to admit that is a tough question to answer. Does it sound different than when it was new? different movements each have a distinctive sound.

I say ask your personal AD. If you have a good relation with them, they'll help you.

It's a Day-Date from 1960's. It probably doesn't make the same sound as the 2008 models....

A member here actually did that. I cannot recall who it was, though.

A noise to some extend is normal, however, and since the watch is newly serviced, I would not worry about it.

After mine got serviced, it felt more tight and less smooth, that's for sure. Even in changing the time, the turn of the crown doesn't feel the same.

The watch needs service if the winding is too tight and loud. But I do know that models are slightly different feel when you wind them. right?

Simple question: When was it last serviced? If it's been too long, then you know what you have to do!!

Yes my 1675 makes the same sound too. I hardly wind my watch so I disregarded it. I believe it is normal too anyway as I had the watch serviced in 2004 and it was making the sound after the service.

My Explorer II is a much more recent model and it doesn't make any griding sound when I wind it. Instead it makes soft, clicking sounds.

My DD sounds a lot different to my GMT when I'm winding it.
Also for me the GMT feels a lot easier to wind, must be the size of the crown.

here's what i noticed:

if the watch is already dead stop moving. i pick her up and start to wind, i will hear the little beautiful clicking sound.

but after say 60 turns, the sound turns to a slight grinding noise and the clicking gets a bit faint.
