Virtually indestructible according to Rolex. Perhaps they need to go back to the drawing board.

I'd much rather have a scratched up aluminum insert than a broken ceramic! Don't get me wrong, I do like the new ceramic versions, but with the potential for them to break and the cost of replacement, I'll be sticking with my 16710.

My DSSD bezel in 2010 was about $1200 without a service. I still have the receipt from the RSC up in the closet with the boxes. Maybe because I had to replace bezel and bezel insert. Maybe insert alone is $450.

On a side note I think they are very tough as I've really banged my SubC and DSSD around without damage. I really had to hit the DSSD hard to bust the bezel. In my experience anything that would break a ceramic bezel insert would do damage to the old insert needing replaced. It's much more but of the many times I've really hit my ceramic watches hard without even a scratch I wonder if damage would've occurred to the older bezels? The issue with very hard things are they are often brittle. It's a trade off but I have no concerns about wearing the watches for everything.

That sucks! I just hit the bezel of my DJII pretty hard against a steel door at my work. One of the two objects got a little ding, and it wasn't my watch, thank god.

Very strange and consider yourself very lucky. Steel is a lot harder than gold. I wonder how that even happens.

Sorry to hear that :(

Ceramic bezel insert is definitely not drop friendly. Please keep us posted on the news.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Sub C gone, 14060 on my wrist and I could not be happier.

Best of luck with the fix.

Hopefully the bezel survived unscathed. Even the slightest ding and the insert cannot be installed.

My condolences.

This is why I am hesitant to move from the good old aluminum bezel.

Hopefully the damage was just to the bezel and insert as it appeared in the picture. The bright side is I would much rather have a broken ceramic bezel/insert to damaging the watch case and lug. I'm sure it will look as good as new when it returns from service.

Sorry to hear, hope you get it fixed soon and the bill isn't to high. But as someone else said at least there wasn't any damage to your case.

+Hi,

the watch is running fine, and theres no visibile (by me) damage to the bezel, but who knows. I do not have insurance and was told by the service center that a hit like that demanded full service. it fell against tile floor. i also have a Sub C and i am not planning to sell it, as you can see in the pic it didnt shatter as everybody imagined ceramic would. on the other hand, the hit didnt seem hard enough for this to happen, it just fell, slipped out of the pouch.

if there would have been damage to the case, i would be selling all of my rolex watches, i remember making fun of my friend because his cartier roadster fell form the night stand onto tile floor and needed full service and some parts repaired. a night stand is almost as high as my waist...

Ouch sorry to hear that. I'm always ultra-careful if I take my GMTiic off in the bathroom, as I figure in a battle between ceramic v's ceramic, there will always be a loser, never a draw!

I have given mine some serious knocks against door-frames, both timber and aluminium, so far unscathed!
