Datejust 41 Oysterclasp newbie questions

Hi all, I recently became a first time Rolex owner. I picked up a DJ41 at an AD. I’ve owned several luxury watches in the past and have also read about the crazy attention to detail and tight tolerances that Rolex puts into their watches. I found that to be incredibly true compared to some other watches I’ve owned.

Now to my slightly OCD questions. A new watch at my office gets attention and everyone wants to see it, so you pass it around and talk about this and that. Anyway, I noticed a guy closing the clasp by forcefully pushing the tip of the buckle (the part that pivots) down until it finally found enough space to click in. I would never say anything as it’s only a watch, but I of course started to examine the mechanism. Two questions:

1. I noticed the ever so slight (very slight) left and right play of the locking/pivoting front part of the clasp. Is that normal? (Probably less than a millimeter) I would share a picture of the piece, but I’m too much of a newbie to be allowed include a picture.

2. Can putting a lot of pressure on the locking parts and not allowing in to open enough to clasp in damage the weld or steel connections (hooks) that hold the clasp shut? Again, would include a picture, but can’t.

Before you say this guy is looking way to close at this stuff...I know I am. For all the watches I’ve owned, I get really into the details over the first couple weeks of ownership and then forget about all that and enjoy wearing the watch. I’m clearly in the details phase right now. Thanks for reading and feel free to ignore if you think these questions are silly.

Play is as should be.

Using excessive force closing the clasp will damage it sooner or later. The clasp is probably the most expensive individual part of the watch.

I don’t pass my watch around, nor my wife or car. Nothing good comes from that.

I’m slightly confused by where you are seeing play in your clasp. It’s a beak and hook system, there should be the type “play” you’re describing unless I’m missing something
