Just in: 1019 and a question

Hi Just in my ‘new’ Milgauss to accompany my explorer 1016.

The watch won t hack. Did all 1019 with cal 1580 hack? It’s a 1.9 m number. Should be 1970 caseback and case 1968

As far as I know, hacking wasn't added to the 1500-series movements until about 1972.

Makes sense. My 1019 is a later one from 1979, and it hacks. 6.1 mil serial.

I think flat. Because of wear it’s not completely sharp. I think I keep it this way. Can have the watch polished but might take away some of its charme. As you see the lugs are also a bit ‘shiny’. Would you guys give it a polish?

wouldn't the case just be rebrushed? i'd imagine it's shiny from a prior polish already.

I think it's more a personal preference. I don't think it will add any value, but can't imagine it hurting it either. with a professional case refinish it would pretty much look like a new watch, hide scratches a bit better and match the bracelet.

if it were mine, i'd get the case refinished. i'm a fan of the brushed look.

Looks like a sleeve polish, so it's probably been worn and loved for a long time.

I'd just leave it as it is and enjoy the historic flavor. Enjoy that beauty!

I was wondering though- does anyone know if the 1019 was supposed to have chamfered lugs to begin with? I have seen examples of both- with sellers claiming that theirs were “unpolished”.

I don't think the 1019 ever had chamfers. Here's my never serviced, unpolished Cern 1019 with a new jubliee:

Get some spring bars that fit, please. They should not protrude the lugs.

That’s what I initially thought about the chamfers too- but there seem to be so many examples online with chamfers. Perhaps those were from later batches.

Another thing I realised is that the typeface for engravings appears to vary. I have seen engravings with both typefaces. Does anyone know if this was related to the particular batch of production?

Been doing some research cos I am sitting on the fence about pulling the trigger for a piece :)

As with all things 1019- there so many variables and unknowns!

My 1019 has chamfers. Yours is the small "Rolex" logo type - wonder if the case was slightly different between the large- and small-font dials...

Looks great on a sharp Jubilee! Sometimes I wear mine on a Jubilee too to switch things up, but the Oyster is never bad.

Mine came with a Swiss 7206 and 58 end links. Mine is circa 67-68, with serial 1.68 mil.

Mine is later. 1979 on a 78360 Oyster with 580 end links. Definite chamfers here. It's my favorite watch of all time. Wearing it right now, and most other days, too.

Perfect size for me. The long lugs and wide smooth bezel even make it feel a little bigger, for quite a modern style.

It certainly doesn't feel like a watch from 40 - 50 years ago.
