Hulk v Starbucks (Cermit)

Hi everyone,

Waited a couple years with no luck on a Hulk with my AD and now thinking about my next steps since it is discontinued.
I really like the Cermit a lot, probably even more than the Hulk but I’m wondering if I should go grey market on Hulk or wait with my AD again for the green 41 or go grey market on the new watch.

It seems they are the same price on the grey market. Any opionions?

Thank you!

Starbucks coffee is overrated. You don’t need another black dial watch.

A lot of ADs use them, and some use green Submariner. They almost never use reference no.

18k is a hard pill to swallow for a steel submariner. If forced to, I'd rather pay the premium towards the Hulk, since it's discontinued and the dial is more unique. Little easier to justify.

Paying the grey price on the new LV is just silly.

That was my thought as well.

This isn’t hard, IMHO. Buy the one you want.

You like the new Kermit more than the Hulk but want to know if you should buy a Hulk anyway at grey pricing? (DavidSW has one unworn for $22,575) What am I missing?

If you weren’t on the preferred list for the hulk that’s probably the same for the Kermit. If you really want the Kermit I would go grey otherwise you are gonna pay more by having to “build” the relationship to pick up that timepiece. My local AD is comparing the Kermit to SS DAYTONA and blue face skydweller for desirability and rarity at the moment. Otherwise
Ask your AD and see how long the wait will be. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yes. Get the one you like the most. If you like them equally get either or both.

The 12 series has a lot of things potentially going for it. Bigger dial, different lug design which will attract people who thought the 11 was too fat, anti reflective coating, new movement with bigger power reserve. Personally, none of this appeals to me. That's why I have the 11 Series LV. I can't explain why I love it, I just do.

You can't really lose either way. Two superb watches. I can't tell you which one you like more. But you can.

Might be different in your part of the word, but I don’t think that is how is is here. Not least because I have an LV from my AD but would not even ask for a Daytona or Blue SD.

Order of difficulty from what I have seen:

Black Sub Date
BLNR
LV Sub Date
BLRO
Blue Sky Dweller/Daytona

Don’t know where the Sub sits in there.

You could buy the LV Sub and a ladies DJ for the same price as the grey market......and impress a lady too.

Go grey with a new Kermit, pay the piper and enjoy. YOLO. Plus it will be discontinued soon making it the shortest run green bezelled Rolex ever.

I personally prefer the hulk--it feels more unique vs a watch with a colored bezel and black dial--but my advice would be figure out which one you prefer and go with that one/figure out the grey market vs AD thing from there.

Is your list in reverse order? Lol. Easiest to get at the top and hardest at the bottom. I’m saying what my AD told me the other day. A lot hype around the Kermit. OP AD can advise of his local situation. I would be curious to know.

My list is easiest to hardest, or what you are calling ‘reverse order’.

Why do you think it's being discontinued?

Hulk is better. It's gone, never to be seen again. What's the Starbuck? A black sub with a green bezel. smh

Cermit doesn;t seem like anything special to me. I'd just take the black date if I wasn't going to flip it. Both the kermit and hulk are much cooler than the cermit

I owned the previous version LV (Kermit/aluminum bezel) when they were readily available and nobody wanted them, because I thought they were "different." I got tired of the green quickly and wound up trading it for a different watch. Looking at the secondary market now -- yikes.

If you're going green, I would go all in with the Hulk, especially now that it's discontinued and because the dial matches the bezel. But you need to be sure that you really like green. Also, many other manufacturers -- from Oris and Glycine to Victorinox and Seiko -- have jumped on the green bandwagon.

With all respect for those who love green (my brother, for example), I'm not a fan. I find the current new reference not only more refined, but more versatile and wearable precisely because of the black dial.

I'd never buy the Hulk. My luck! I'm saving a lot of money.

Hulk. Sunburst green dial was the best thing about the LV reference and Rolex did away with it.

I have owned the original LV, and have the 116610 LV and the 126610LV. I really prefer the dial on the 116 but love the changes to the 126. I sold the 16610 LV as I did not really like the the combo that much. I really hated the 116 LV when it came out but over time, I really grew to like it more and more so I added it and have really loved it in my collection. It has such a beautiful dial but at times it really looks black. Only you can make that choice.
