You didn't specify which GMT Master II you're actually interested in. Since this is your first Rolex, I am assuming you're looking for the more "affordable" ones, in that case, I'd say your best chance of obtaining a new one from an AD would be a Rootbeer (I waited 5 months and bought from a small AD with previous purchase history of a Two Tone Blue Submariner and a Datejust 41), followed by the Batman/girl, followed by Pepsi which is pretty much made of Unobtanium for a first time buyer.

First off, you all are very nice, much appreciate all the help! It seems to me like I need to do a bit of leg work instead of just calling places. I need to actually go into stores to see what's possible, which is a bit of work.
In all honesty, I'm now leaning more towards the Explorer II in white. I have darker skin, and a black dial doesn't pop like the white one does. My sister is getting married in June, so I'd like to be able to wear my first rolex by then. I'm kicking myself for not buying in the summer of 2019, I was actively looking at watches back then. Thanks again, I'll update you all once I make my first purchase. |

It’s all possible depending on your location and leg work. In my case I got the Tudor gmt first, turned down TT root beer 2 weeks later, 5 months later got the BLNR, then 2 weeks later got the TT root beer.
If polar explorer 2 is what you want then get that. Don’t settle. |

Anything is possible. It's been over 15 yrs since i last purchase from my local AD when i inquire about getting a GMT Master II. After 3 months worth of keeping in close contact with my AD, I was finally offer the BLNR.
Just be patient and persistent with your local AD and eventually you'll get one. Good luck with your search. |

Maybe get a TT CHNR. I don't think they will sell a SS GMT without history...way too much demand. TT CHNR is nice especially if you have a lot of SS watches.

I put my name on a waitlist at a AD that I just walked into and have no prior interaction with.
Got the call within a month and walked out with a BLNR at MSRP. Though rare,I can attest that it does happen. |

Rolex does not conduct sales via phone or internet. You must go into the store and engage with the SA to create a relationship...it is like doing life ;)

Way too much demand from prior customers. You probably need to buy some diamonds before it magically appears. Or go grey.

You pretty much just described finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, my friend. It certainly gives hope to us all... but seriously, wow, that's amazing. There are many variables at play when trying to get a rare SS model, and a key variable being luck. Luck isn't something you can bank on, but patience can eventually pay off.

I think every AD varies in their business practices and how they 'prioritize' customers. I went in on 1/4 and put my name in for a few models. Only purchase history was a SubC. Got called 8-9 weeks later and was offered a BLNR at MSRP. Told them it was for a big anniversary (9/10/11) and was hoping to have something by then. Figured it may happen in 10 months haha. I was definitely surprised at how fast they called but super happy. It was the first GMT they had seen in a while.
The AD did say that those seeking a piece for a special occasion may help, since it's likely to be sentimental and not flipped. |
