Hello! What is with the lead times?

Hi guys

Newbie here, im looking to buy hopefully an oyster perpetual, rang a UK AD today to see what the lead time is and was told... years for the 41mm and 36mm versions, but he can get other models quicker

Jaysus, i expected a couple of months but... i dont know where else to try and get one now without spending nearly £6k

Any tips?

thanks

Buy on the grey market at a premium or look into other brands. That's the current situation and that's not changing anytime soon short of a major financial meltdown.

Try some other ADs but go in person. You have to put a lot of effort nowadays to spend your hard earned money if you want a Rolex. I wonder, did they say what other models would be easier.

That sounds like a very long wait for that model compared to my experience. Although I do have a good relationship with the AD I purchased it from. I would suggest trying elsewhere maybe? Good luck

So true! You can't just call and ask if they have a model in stock. The answer 99% of the time will be NO -- even if they do have it.

This isn't like ordering a pizza. You need to schedule an in-person appointment... so, you can be vetted and qualified. (And I understand COVID has thrown a big wrinkle into the process in the UK.) After your interview, you may not be deemed Rolex Oyster Perpetual worthy!

As you’re in England where did you go?

I’m surprised with the OP being years! I walked into the store on day one and walked out with an OP41 Champagne

This. We have members here that have been successful in acquiring their timepieces, Submariners, Datejusts, with no or minimal purchases by going to various AD in person, and build a relationship with SAs and managers.

But, being in COVID lockdown in UK, it could be even more challenging to visit ADs.

Thanks guys, it sounded like it was just the Oyster that was such a high waiting list, i think he said he could get a datejust, it was a dealer in Leicester i rang- Browns i think. He said hed had to stop taking orders on the 41mm Oyster, as he had years of a waiting list

Id love to go to a dealer and chat in person but obv cant at the minute. He actually said the lead times were nothing to do with covid believe it or not

Ive seen one in jomashop, thats the next best option i think

I would suggest going to see a few AD's in person and having a chat - obviously when things open up here. I would expect the OP wait list to be a lot less than years! Maybe you got their standard non customer telephone response.

Issue there is that the lockdown is still in effect.

Because you walked in on day one!

New model, new list.

Try it again now that 40-50 other people have asked to go on the wait list.

Also it seems that even though these are ‘base’ models the ADs are only being allocated 10-15 for the year and that’s spread over 7 colours so it’s clear now that these are going to be scarce watches.

Congratulations on the silver/gold model, looks good in the pictures

The reason there are 'waiting lists' for desirable models is because ADs sell them out the back door for over list. It has nothing to do with the actual availability. They want you do buy less desirable models instead. There is no mystery to this.
