Patek Pilot and Travel Time
Hello there,
I already started a new thread asking for advice between 5524R and 5326G. Both amazing watches. I recently saw there is another candidate to this list that could the one I can buy: it’s the new 5924G: Pilot, Travel Time chrono. My AD think the lack of pusher to adjust the dual time is a dealbreaker. You need to use the patek « pen », a separate accessory. Again, I sollicite your opinion on these 3 models. If you have to buy one given the wish list below??? And why?. I already own a 5236P in line PC. On a wish list for nautilus 5811G, and 5270P green PCC, and calatrava clou de paris 6119R. Thank you |

I own the 5924G-001. Foremost, in person the watch looks significantly different and better than you might see via photographs on the web
Great watch. I wasn't enthused about the watch until I owned it; just one of "those" Pateks that have a presence in person. Regarding the pushers, not a deal breaker for me. How often does one change the local time; carry a pusher or a similar object. (consider a golf tee, softer that metal and who cares if you misplace it) Good luck |

I also have a 5924G (010). I would mostly agree with Santiago; however, I wished they did have some sort of pusher or nub to change the jump hours. I was recently in Europe, and having the dual time was super functional. For short travels, it's probably not as big of a deal. But in a pinch, a toothpick works great.

It seems like you really need pushers to make this complication, meaningful and productive and useful. Otherwise you’re pushing a pen in there or a toothpick or a stick or a paper clip. That doesn’t make sense to me.

You only need the stylus if you let the local date get many days behind. Even then, you can always use the side pushers 24 x no. days to correct the date.
It's a very well thought out complication. Especially the quad state day night sunrise sunset indicators. The only oddity to me is the double detent crown as the first detent serves no purpose. I'm told this is because parts are shared with other models. It's not a big deal, just a surprise. Having the date change forwards and backwards is the key to making this piece work. A time travel just makes so much more sense than a 24h GMT. Looks great, feels great, works perfectly and hidden when you don't need it. The skeleton counterbalance on the centre seconds hand is a nice touch, too. Considering the amount of information on the dial, it's very uncluttered. Well thought out and executed, in my opinion. I also have the 7234G. I love it. So of the three watches you mention I would shoot for the 5524R/G. Plus you can get them pre-loved at a nice discount.
I've tried on the 5326G and I found it bulky. Also the service costs are high. Also I found the contemporary dial texture (which I loved) clashed a little bit with the very traditional, very Patek Clous de Paris around the case edge. Totally subjective, so maybe you feel differently and love it. I liked it in the pictures, but not when I saw it in 3D in real life. And 5924G downside has already been discussed. Plus thickness and cost of service. |
