This is a fab 5 for sure, but surprised the BLRO didn't make the 5. I've been loving mine since I got it a week ago: the jubilee just makes for such comfortable wear.

Jealous of your Journe CB.......a fantastic dressy sports watch that can easily be dressed up for all occasions.

I love my BLRO , it’s like the perfect only one Rolex , but if I can choose 2 Rolex I would go Platona and Hulk. Luckily I don’t have to be without any of them

As far as CB, of all the watches I had let go, CB is my biggest regret , I should have known better and keep it.

JorgeCCW, thank you for such an amazing thread and vicarious journey on the collection.

I'm curious, compared to earlier this spring where you were thinking that the black 116500LN was the perfect one and you were hesitant on locking so much into a Platona and the possible valuer retention of a platona -- What shifted your thinking to embrace the platinum?

In our current version, do you ever miss having a complicated Patek in the mix or does the AP sufficiently scratch the haute horology credentials for you?

I too let go of the CB. Not sure about regrets since I have so many blue dials.

FP Journe is not only about the dial my friend. A true connoisseur watch. Tantalum case, movement to die for , versatility to wear. Not too many blue dials can do that. And for what it cost me at the time , even better

Cheers

Well I love Daytona in general, such a great reference. And you are right I was very hesitant to put so much money on a watch that in paper is the same as the steel version for a fraction of the price. So yeah rationally doesn’t make sense, but on the wrist is a different story, so emotionally I was totally in. The problem was that in my mind that kind of money is Patek money , and never really saw Rolex like the kind of brand that I could spend that kind of money. But the current crazy market also was telling me that it was even crazier to put that amount of money on a complicated Patek that I would for sure lose an arm and a leg. So then what it was not logical made total sense. Platona prices on the secondary market rise close enough to retail , something that complicated dress watches can’t do , lucky to get 55-60% of their value. So jumping to Platona made more sense than ever. Never thought I was ever gonna be able to justify it but right now if you want a buy something with that budget is hard to do better than Platona. Plus Rolex is helping by making Platona availability not even close of how it was 6 months ago. There are lists for it on Rolex AD’s.

Now of course I still crave a complicated Patek, no doubt. But I would need to find something I like at the right price for me to jump , I am kind of looking for it and trying not to find it. I know it doesn’t make sense, because if I find it something has to go, and again rationally my current lineup matches the market , my taste and my lifestyle. This never ends my friend
Cheers

Thanks for keeping the thread updated Jorge. You are an inspiration!
My own collecting has definitely been influenced by your decisions over time!

I like FPJ but found the CB a bit overrated. Printed dial and plastic looking hands. Didnt last long in the collection. Now as for the CS...gorgeous...PR....milled numerals and gold dial and preowned prices make it a bargain

So good. Can’t wait for what’s next. we are similar in velocity but as of yet I haven’t had the discipline to contain it to 4-6. I very much need too.

Jorge your discipline in keeping your collection at a manageable size is aspirational.
I also appreciate your constant effort to rearrange and find the right combos.
It’s great to own so many watches over time and give them a chance.
I’m in the middle of a partial redo/refresh right now as well.
Looking forward to see how it turns out yet I can’t shed enough.

I been with 5 for sometime ; could easily be with 4 but 5 gives a little more variety. Think the current collection is solid, shouldn't be a change for a long time. But you know how it is, will see

I think more than discipline, the way I see it is if I have 4 watches i can't wear all the watches twice in the same week. If you have 3 you can but you have to wear one of the 3 three times. 4 is probably ideal.
In other words if I am not wearing a watch enough on a week that means I probably don't love it enough or don't need that watch to begin with.

Glad I owned all those brands at the time because right now would be very hard with this picky market we have.
There is so many ways to collect but i am with in the team that say if you don't wear it enough sell it ! , What's the point , well there is the point of hoarding

I agree wholeheartedly. I do go in phases where one brand is my fave and other times where I mix it up. So I like plenty of variety. But like you if it doesn’t get worn it goes!
I also have a couple of “big” occasion watches that I do keep just because they are awesome but might only be worn a few times a year.
Like I have commented before watching your journey over the years has been fun and at times influential on my own choices.

Some great stories in this thread.

My collections evolved to 7 now. All Rolex. Have my eyes peeled for something new to luster but haven't latched onto anything. Going back and forth between jumping into PP or maybe RM. 35-02 Red excites me.

Really like the 35-02. Don’t think I’ll get one. Will likely the new 35/55 new watch the 35-03

Impossible to count , there is a part where you don’t know to much about watches so you move because your mistakes , there is a part where you move them because you still don’t know what you really like, then you move again because you have watches that you like but really don’t match your lifestyle, there is a part that you move because you are hooked and addicted to it.
I think I am in the part that recognizes that having the same for long period of times eventually is gonna bore you , but I am thinking if you diversify the kind of watches you have then probably will have a better outcome than having too much of the same , will see

I like this four watch version. My problem with multiple watches is I always want to wear the best one so the others sit. But your right it’s the journey that matters or makes this hobby fun. At one point I had five Panerai. Now zero. Now thinking about a Speedmaster but I’m worried I’d neglect my other watches. My Cartier Santos gets worn the most lol.

I go through spurts.. May not wear a particular watch much and all of a sudden rediscover it and wear it often again. I was on a long road trip (around the world for work) for 17 days and longest time I wore a single watch in a long time.. Patek 5164.. under the radar and the GMT was perfect for many time zone changes...
