Spoke too soon.

A different dealer bought my for 105k.

It's a fantastic watch. The heft coupled with the brown dial made the watch.

But it just attracted too much attention. That coupled with the price increase, made my mind up.

Is it work 120k the dealer is going to mark it up to? In my opinion, absolutely.

Y’all should google the Tiffany results. Possibly see one of our members on CNBC talking about it.

If the sales of PP dress watches slow down to the point where PP would be in financial trouble, Mr. Stern might reconsider producing more Nauts.

Now all the people in the world should just connive to stop buying PP dress watches.

People all around the world have money to spend (see the Rolex and Patek craze). This means people are doing alright and have reached a certain standard of living. With that standard, and money, comes the desire to dress up and live "the lifestyle" more I think.

With this lifestyle comes the notion to have multiple watches, one for daily use, one for sport and... one for dress.
I do believe the market for casual/daily watches has grown compared to the dress watch market, see the release of the Patek 5524 a few years ago and the 5212A now, but the dress watch is not gone by a long shot.

Hell, there are even 'casual' dress watches in the Patek line up if you look close enough

Yes, in spite of the forum creating the impression otherwise on occasion.

So that’s why all the dress watches go for like 20-40% discounts. Either patek makes too many or not that many people want them... what’s worst would be both too much supply and no one wants them.

no question sport watches are the trend and dress watches have a softer market right now..but the question was does anyone at all buy dress watches...assuming the OP was not being literal 'cause I recently bought one so I can 100% say yes...my generalizable answer is also yes.

I think Patek's very high end will continue to be dominated by grand complicated PM dress watches and they will continue to experiment with what their entry market products should look like. For example, with so many of the Calatrava discontinued.. I'm sure that will be a place of experimentation for Patek for the next few years...some will work...some will not...none will be a data point as to the future of dress watches.

the best offers on dress watches from ADs that i got were 10-15% off. possibly the ninja is referring to grey market prices here.

I assume he means grey and used. No interest in either for me.

Anyway, for the 5227G, on Chrono the cheapest unworn one is $27,500 (MSRP, $35,160). Doubled sealed, but from 2016. Only other one with photos is $28,7100. But the store has no reviews.

For the 5738P, $44,500 (MSRP, $52,390). Double sealed, but from 2013 (same grey as above). Only other one with photos is $51,668. Watchbox has a preowned one listed at $37,950. Patek's keep their value; ha ha.

Apart from the one grey selling old stock, both watches are very difficult to get unworn/new from a grey.

Not only is the world getting more casual but it is also getting more online and so you don't just step into an AD and buy in isolation as you did a decade ago, increasingly people are buying based on what info is out there and most of it and most of the desire is around sports watches.

That is 2.5-7.5% lower which makes all the difference in terms of weather prices hold up or not. In a commodity that is a massive short fall

As others have said... the world has moved to more casual dress... which is a large reason there is less demand...

I am not debating the price. Merely making an observation of the number of dress watches that are sold by PP each year. The question was if anyone bought dress watches anymore

Also that sports watches are just more versatile. Esp if they come with a thin profile. One can wear a say Nautilus/Aquanault with a suit and it looks decent. However, calatrava with a T-shirt just looks strange. YMMV.

I know just mentioning it was offside. This current s/d can’t hold forever... because the inventory accrues to the secondary market
