7234 owners, did you add a wider strap?
I am thinking of buying the pilot travel time 7234g and the smaller 37.5 mm size fits my wrist and my style. However, the leather strap tapers down a lot. It’s very narrow at the buckle. For a more masculine look I thought about replacing the strap with a wider version. Has anyone else done this or thought of doing this with a 7234?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. (For those looking at both the 42 mm and the 37.5 mm versions: I tried on the 5524 / 42mm version and I will admit it isn’t as big as I thought it would be. I could almost pull it off and I’m a 7” wrist. Still, the 7234 is my pick) |

Let me know what you decide to do. Mine is expected to arrive this month and while I’m planning to get a lighter color strap I never thought about a wider one.
I’m also glad you shared your thought vs. the 42mm one. I have not seen 7234g in metal and had a little doubt about 37.5mm size but I think you just put that doubt to rest. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I dont think the 5524 wears as big as a normal 42mm. I've got 6.5" wrist and it fits ok on me. I'd try on both before pulling the trigger.

7234G is 18/14mm lug-strap which can feel a bit dainty. 5524G is 21/18mm and the buckle is probably too big for a 7234 (also 18/18mm seems wrong).
The obvious solution would be to get the buckle from a 5960/01G which luckily has the same clevis prong buckle design as the pilot watches. That one is 16mm and should be perfect for beefing up a 7234G just the right amount. Make sure to order a custom 18/16mm strap with rectangular holes and no pin notch. |

I want to buy that one as well.
18/16 should be the way to go. Mind sharing details on your AD and wait times? |

Bumping to see if anyone has tried this size with a 18/16 strap.

Me, OP, I did! It worked and it looks great. I did a chocolate barenia leather from ABP. proportions look much better with the 18/16. Buckle is SS, but I’m ok with that.

That looks so much better than the 18/14. Almost looks like there is no taper. Would you happen to have another watch with a 20/16 strap that you can take a side by side picture of? Also, could you provide a wrist shot (both normal side and bottom of wrist/buckle side) of the 7234 when you get a chance? The 18/14 strap is main thing holding me back on this, but this looks hopeful.

I’ll see what angles I can get on the wrist.
I don’t have a comparison to lay it down next to, sorry. There was no wait on this model. I planned it out as such: The 7234 was in the store in May, but I didn’t buy it bc of the strap. I asked you guys and had the custom 18/16 strap made by ABP. I spent the money and had the ABP strap in hand ahead of time. I tried the strap on a similar size watch at home before going to the store. It looked good. When I returned to the store in June. The watch was still there. I had them put my ABP on the watch when I bought it. Looked fantastic! Wearing it daily ever since. |

Thank you.
Funny. I was thinking of buying a 18/16 strap first to actually handle and see if strap looked fine. But, don't have a 18 mm lug watch to get an accurate feel. |

My situation a bit different. I have the 5524R, and the smallest notch on the strap fits just right on a hot day but too loose when there’s a bit more aircon. I’m ordering a shorter version of the strap so that i can have a choice of fitting it more tightly

Looks good! Glad to see you were able to get the strap that makes the watch more your taste. It still doesn't seem like there are a lot of these out on the market. Haven't seen a ton of pics of this online (forums, instagram) nor do there seem to be a lot at the ADs. I've seen the 7234R at my local AD but curious to see the WG 7234g in person.
If you don't mind me asking -- were you able to get any discount on this piece? The MSRP is rather steep @ almost $50K. :) |

The 42 mm was sitting in the case in May and in June when I went to the store. I think the 37 is still sitting out there in a few US stores (but maybe not Asian market from what others have posted). Seems like the few I’ve seen online were 10% off for both 37 and 42mm |

@Brian7708 This is superb. The proportions are way more pleasing and seem more practical. Congrats.
BTW, I tried several ALS and often found the straps too thin compared to the size of the case. Maybe I should also investigate for such a solution. |

Thread revival…..Happy to say I took the Patek plunge and sourced a 7234g. What a beautiful piece!
The reason for reviving this thread is to discuss the strap options. I’m planning to call Henri Stern to get the exact specs, but my measurements are showing 63mm on the 12:00 side and 100mm on the 6:00 side. For my 6.5” (16.5cm) wrist this is ridiculous small and dainty. Curious if there have been any members updating their straps? What specs did you go with for your size wrist? I’m thinking for 6.5” I’m going to need 70mm / 105mm. Btw, the Stowa is a 65mm/105mm (40mm ~48mm lug to lug). Pics for y’all! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Standard length is 115/75mm but you could of course shorten it if the long end lip bothers you. I have the same wrist as you and usually go 110/70. 100/65mm is the Small ladies size that 7234G is delivered with by default. |

Appreciate the reply and specs. The green strap in the photo is Delugs. The short side being 65mm leaves the clasp offset as well.
I purchased the watch from a trusted seller here on TRF. Does Patek / AD offer a men’s length strap at the time of sale, or is it a required ‘add on’? Also, how easy is it to get the buckle off? I received two straps (blue and brown) and assumed that only one buckle comes with purchase. Will you confirm? |

Added a Hirsch strap and a gold plated buckle to my 7234r.
The g wasn’t out when I got it or I would have gone for that instead. |

Nice, thanks for sharing! I configured a strap at CF, but haven’t purchased just yet. Matte finish navy alligator. Definitely 18/16 on the taper. Leaning toward 110mm/70mm.

Was wondering about the taper on the Hirsch strap as well. The comparison photo that I posted is a 20/16mm taper (the green canvas strap) compared to the 18/14mm OEM blue.
