Return the watch.

Their email response was terrible.....looks like a scammer based on the punctuation/grammar alone. I would expect much more from a Patek AD, and i'm not a picky guy.

Good luck.

[QUOTE=k8wt;11627127]This is madness, I didn't buy a watch in order to sell it, let alone sell it unworn (by me) with inherited scratches and a creased up strap. How do I explain that to any interested party - sorry it turned up looking like crap from an AD now I'm trying to pass it on/QUOTE]

You're right, this is madness, this entire watch hobby is lol. Fact is as I see it is that your experience has blown to say the least, and when you're paying this much money then this should not be the case.
If you can't make it right with this store and brand then cut your losses and move on to a brand that will value you as a customer and deliver your desired experience. Also, time is not on your side. If you're going to sell then sell while the piece is still new more or less for maximum resale.

The more i read this thread, the more I'm astounded by this (sad) situation. All my watches have come with some protective plastic around them. Also did you pay using credit card?

I know in the USA, especially with AmEx, they take good care of people and you can object to the charges. The sooner you take care of this, the better.

The AD just put the problem back on your shoulders. The scratches are not a one time thing. You have been too kind to them thus far not to have disclosed their name. People on this forum would have second thoughts dealing with such an AD.

Sorry to see, this is very disappointing and as others have mentioned I would go straight to the top or even to Patek after receiving that email response. Hope you get it sorted!

Take it back and demand a refund ASAP and don’t back down - that’s an ex demo piece for sure. All the signs of a watch that looks like it’s toured the UK as a showpiece then been packaged up as “new”.
Completely unacceptable.

I came here for some experienced advise, or to ascertain whether I am blowing this out of proportion.

I have been registered since 2012 with less than 50 posts, so I'm hardly fabricating a newly received Patek with damage for fun!

Post only indisputable FACTS.
They cannot be considered defamatory.

As it was posted, did you pay by credit card?

If so, after that response I would tell them you want your money back and they can stick any chance of further business wherever they see fit.

If they don't refund you I would go down a charge back route with you bank. That is unacceptable on every level and actually quite shocking.

Ugh...I feel really bad for the OP. I hope the AD makes this right, but from the response (or lack there of thus far) it seems the AD is going to be dodgy and try to place the blame on OP.

Why on earth would the protective film be removed before posting?

It looks to me like the watch had potentially been on display and on a C Clip stand. And has obviously been viewed by several potential clients

I had to pay a deposit by card on the phone and the remainder via bank transfer. I preferred to try and resolve this without resorting to AmEx.

As mentioned by previous posters, the scratches/marks exhibited are not micro scratches typically experienced by wearing but more by handling etc.

I have since reached out to Patek UK. They have a link to this thread.

Not sure about toured the UK but it appears it's been handled more than anticipated, or expected, that's for certain

Today the AD requested for ME to send it back and have them inspect it before passing judgement... make of that what you will.

That is a very fair and valid point.

Agreed it has and the condition was not as discussed with the AD initially.

I would have sent that watch back the next hour after opening the box.

I had a Cartier Santos sent to me like this. Informed AD immediately with pics. They were incredibly apologetic and sent me a brand new one fully stickered up immediately. This situation sucks. They were hoping you just wouldn't notice. Sorry OP. But stick to your guns. No universe where that watch is acceptable as new. The strap alone would piss me off. I tried on a 5524R this weekend and the strap was immaculate. That watch has been mishandled.

I would physically walk into the shop, and ask for a refund. It's crazy that they sent sent this out as new. I would not be entertaining them by sending back and dealing with them over email.

The strap shows three of the holes with wear, so if you are one of them, the watch was a demo at some point. The scratch on the side is more than a hairline. Inwould get a refund.

Comment deleted because I didn’t realise there was this last page and the OP seems to have handled it excellently.

Good luck. You deserve a new watch, and they deserve to be put through the ringer.

I don't think the strap is a big deal. But the gash in the back is not okay.

Unbelievable that the high end boutique dare to do the shameful thing like this to a client.

This is important issue, don't waste your time on the phone or email any more.

Bring that display watch back to the boutique, show it to your SA and manager and ask for a brand new piece. Don't ask for discount, it will make you look cheap.

Big picture. Unfortunately this experience is all to common in the purchase of high demand brands.

This is caused by no small part to limited supply, creating a take it or leave it situation. For the AD, the next buyer is only a call away.

So if you’re not happy, return it. Just get on with it because someone else will happily pick that piece up after you’re done. That’s the luxury buying experience for many these days.

Sad because many years ago you could sample a tray of most of the pieces you wanted and take your pick. This is the luxury experience you all should be having.
