Dropped my Watch

This morning, my Datejust took a fall from about waist height onto the tiled floor of the bathroom.

By some miracle, there isn't a mark on it, and it is running fine. There is however a terrible sounding noise when I give it a little shake. I can only describe it as maybe the winding plate is loose?

I am booked in at an AD over the weekend who will take a look and possibly send to RSC (fully appreciate I will be paying for what needs sorting).

Am I best leaving it off the wrist for now?

Your prayers are appreciated :D

Yes don’t wear it until it’s fixed……rolex RSC should get it right

I would pull the crown out to stop the movement (prevent additional wear on misaligned parts, if there are any) and get a full service. Should be perfect after the spa treatment.

Good luck! I hate to see these posts. I also recently dropped my Speedmaster on the bathroom floor too. Seems like bathroom tiles is always the culprit.

Autowind pendulum bearings axis perished due to G-Force impact. Don’t wear, since the irregular pendulum rotation will scrape on the case-back, incurring tiny metal filings which will wreck the movement.

Pull the crown to stop it and then have it serviced. Stopping the movement could prevent further internal issues.

Store the watch until serviced. No prayers needed for inanimate objects, but hopefully it returns to your wrist in good speed.

I always (almost) make a point of putting on or taking off my watch over the table in my bedroom so if I drop it, it only falls about 8 inches to the wood table top.

That "terrible sounding noise" doesn't sound good! Whatever you do don't wear it until it's been seen to by your AD or RSC! And pull the crown out to hack the movement and stop it running! Tiled and marbled floors are a Rolex´s worst enemies!

Kitchen tile floors aren't so forgiving either. Photo is of my first iPhone after falling from the counter onto the tile floor.

Clearly, you really ought to stop wearing it and put it away until it's fixed, otherwise you are causing more damage to the internals.
With watches, it's all about the internals not the external and how it appears

This was the noise (it’s now safely away with the crown out waiting to go to AD - thank you all for the advice)

My one Rolex tip would be to only put your watch on, or, take it off - where it won't get damaged if you drop it.

I speak from a couple of experiences.

Just do it where its carpeted, or over a sink / worktop / table / whatever.

It's easy to do and becomes habit very quickly.

I say wear it !

I have a Hulk while having 4 other subs. Got the Hulk in 2011, and a Black 116610LN. I was so found of the Hulk that I almost never wore my Smurf, my 116610LN, or my first Rolex bought by my Dad for me back in 1986, a 168000 ( turned out to be a transitional Sub).

Anyway in the last couple of years if I were to move my wrist up and down and bring my Hulk somewhere near my ear or just being in a quiet place….. I can still hear the rotor or whatever it is move.

Eventually I decided to switch to the less flashy Black Sub which was in better shape as my daily. I know I should have sent the Hulk in for a service as I’ve had it for 11 years. But I didn’t bother, yet.

I say you can still maybe wear the watch ( I’m no expert).

I wonder how much it would run to fix my 11 year old Hulk ?

So the AD sent the watch off to the RSC. This was 29th May. I got it back on Friday 1st July. £104 for a replacement crown (as there was a little flattening where it was dropped).

It could have been so much worse, just glad to have it back :)

Unforeseen circumstances such as these are precisely why it’s critical to have a spare Rolex.

This is correct- happened to my wife's watch, and got it replaced before things got bad.
