This is a legit Grail Piece for me
I doubt i'll ever be in a position to own one but if someone asks me what my ultimate Grail is, its a 5224R
You can keep your Nautilus and Aquanauts

Do you use different pins when wearing a nato strap with a Patek or do they make nato straps that accommodate the quick release pins?

I use the quick release pins that are standard with no issue. The pins rotate in and out of the way.

I pick it up a good bit and swap straps often.

Solid look you got there mate. Im into olive green straps as of late as well.

As for the 5524, i am a pass on this due to its size. Before I used to wear all the way up to 47mm but now I can’t seem to like anything above 41. I’ve also tried the 5524 from a friend and find it too big. My wrist is a 6.5.

Another interesting question PP buyers should ask themselves is if you can get a Nautilus or Aquanaut would you even consider buying the 5524? Because if your answer is NO then I think its fair to say that this is just a byproduct of not getting what you really want

Yep would still buy. I like pilot watches and have a variety. This one with the travel time function fits perfectly in my rotation.

Those other references are so much different than this. I would consider the improved demand for AP and VC Overseas the byproduct in your example.

I have a Nautilus and Aquanaut and wear the 5524g the most. Some people might think that I was crazy that I traded my AP RO 15400 for it which is arguably a much more popular watch but I get much more use out the 5524g.

There has been a suggestion that the pushers can in everyday use become easily unset.
Has anyone encountered this issue?

Not at all. They are protected by a screwed in. Like the pushers of a Daytona.

The 5164, I don't know tho.

I have a 5524G with a blue strap but I am really a bracelet person. I wear my watches loose and straps bother me. If loose enough they roll the watch too far over. (I like Rolex and Nautilus and have both) Has anyone had a good Wg bracelet fashioned for this watch?

exactly this! I can wear my 5524 happily in the knowledge that most won't know its a Patek. I like that. Contrast with my 5711 rose gold on the other hand and....

I like the legibility of the 5524.

cheers

Anyone ever find a nice rubber strap for the 5524?
It has 60m water resistance after all.

I tried the 7234, which is marketed for women, and it's actually a great size. What makes it feminine though is the small strap size, not so much the case size. Patek should make a 39mm version of this watch for men with a 20mm strap. I'd even be happy with the current 7234 with a wider strap. It's too bad because I love this complication.

I love my 7234g. The size is great for my 6” wrist.

I understand what you’re saying about the strap and I was worried about it at first but not an issue at all.

I used to not like this watch but now I can't stop thinking about it. Probably going to pick up the 5524g soon.

My favor travel watch. Super low key, no one knows it is a patek. Enjoyed the black strap from 5520p as well

I'm answering my own question about a nice rubber strap for this 60m water resistant Pilot's watch.

I put the 5524g on on isoswiss skinskan (rubber with croc pattern)

The strap is black with white switching and seems to suit it well.

The dial colour on the 5524g is so dark blue it's essentially black.

Very much the like the Nomos Ahoi Atlantic blue or a carbon black BMW.

Very impressive watch that wears true to size!

Here's the 5524g on a Zenith rubber strap from an El Primero and the Patek buckle.

What size wrists are out there sporting the 5524g?

I’m 7.75, flat, and worry it may look small? Can’t try one on locally so living vicariously through your pics :)

My wrist is 6.5 and I think it looks great, though I would not get anything larger.

Amazing look IMHO. And it does not like rubber at all on the picture. The deep black works really well with the dial. Just love it.

Could this serve as the only watch you wear? I.e. a one watch collection? Or do you all find it not versatile enough and have it as part of a rotation?

Great question. For me, it’s rotational for 3 reasons:

1. mine is rose; maybe white gold bc it’s a bit quieter

2. The water resistance at 60 bars isn’t 1-watch worthy. I hate taken off a watch to beach or shower. Hate it.

3. I personally just can’t do a PP as an everyday. It’s just too haute.
