What is your biggest about turn/180?

I have recently developed a hankering for a Ceramic Daytona, which has completely surprised me.

I had previously ruled it out as overhyped, too small, lack of date, etc etc. I even owed a bimetal (non ceramic) a while back which I sold after about a month as just didn't click.

Yet for some reason I am drooling over the ceramic Panda lately, and see it as the perfect next watch

So what is your biggest watch collecting about turn? What did you hate and then wake up one day loving? Or what did you buy thinking you loved it and then decided one day "na not for me"?

My biggest 180 was Rolex itself, as a brand. When I first got into watches in my early 20’s I hated Rolex. I thought they were for arrogant a-holes, and I couldn’t stand the cyclops. I was all about Omega, Breitling and IWC.

Then one day I saw somebody wearing a 14060 (that was the current model then) and I instantly fell in love. AND there was no cyclops. I bought one that year and have been a Rolex lover ever since, 20+ years now.

Which Daytona panda model do you want?

I see that neither of the two SS ceramic Daytona models have a panda dial.

I would say hate is a strong word. I did feel some remorse as I am not rich and I just spent 10k on a watch which I liked more in the showroom than I did at home.

After wearing it for sometime, it is now my daily and would have regretted it massively if I sold it.

I think one of the main problems was this "hype" business. There are a lot of people who talk bad on the YMs and if you listen, it will also slowly infect the way you think and it can do so without you even knowing it.

Here is the watch in question. I would let my Daytona go before this one.

Looks great to me! Personally haven't got on with bi-metal the two times I tried it (Daytona and Bluesy) but it looks amazing on other people. It's about what suits you personally. Ignore the hype

I can relate to that, I felt the same about Rolex. Growing up in a a working class background a Rolex and a Porsche were things for rich people, and way beyond anything I'd be able to afford. And therefore I kind of kidded myself into thinking I didn't like them and didn't care if I couldn't get them. As time went on and life changed I started to really appreciate both and have loved owning both brands which I am a massive fan of.

The spending threshold gets bigger and bigger I would never of dreamed of paying so much for watches as I do now lol

TT Datejust. Never liked them maybe cos I associated them with older mens wrists :p but I went into my AD with my in-law last year Nov and he tried one on so I tried the YG and Steel, Jubillee Wimbledon dial and that was it. I was hooked.

I guess 2 things for me.
First is owning more than one Rolex. My first and only was purchased in 2005 that I wore as my daily for 18 years. For years I thought how crazy is it that some of my friends owned multiples. I now own 7.
Second, like OP I had zero interest in the Daytona. I remember telling my AD ‘you don’t have to worry about me bugging you for one’. I think it was the anti-hype for me. The hype kept me away. I know own a white ceramic and absolutely love it. Looking to add the black now…

I am now realizing that I do not need as many watches at high prices. I am close to being done completely.

It didn't look right. Then I met one and it looked great. The complications and user friendliness gradually brought me round somewhat, but it was the watch in the metal that nailed it.

I grew up with 1990s and early 2000s IWC which I still love. My biggest about face would be owning a Rolex. So far it hasn't happened, but I am not ruling it out any longer. Milgauss Z-Blue, Zenith or ceramic Daytona, who knows...

Meh to love are OP39 white and YM rhodium. Never thought too much about them until I tried them on. They are both in my top 3 all time right now.

Love to meh is panda Daytona. Was on the list and been pestering AD for years, finally got one. Took it home and realized it did nothing for me. Took it back next day and returned it for TT Daytona white. AD was shocked and quite happy to work that out.

I bought a white 116520 and it just didn't click... illegible, small... and then it went wrong and I traded it in for a blue dialled Sky-Dweller... much more legible, complicated, imposing...

Then I sold a Day-Date 18238 and thought... what's my collection missing? A Daytona...

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and decided to plough my money into... yes, you've guessed it... a black 116520.

So far so good, still relatively illegible but now a nice size and a fully fledged member of my collection... until PP prices plummet and I trade it in for a 5296G that is!

The Daytona is the one for me also. I tried on the TT version and thought it looked small not only on my wrist but the dial size. Then a SA let me try on his YG Daytona Ceramic OF. I loved it.

Explorer II Polar. I never used to like the white dial then I developed a hankering for one when I was skiing! Traded in a two tone Wimbledon for one a couple of months ago. It really compliments my collection as its my only white dial watch.

Explorer II black for me, I have been dead set on divers for years but sprung for one that I saw in the window, it's been surprising how well of a fit it is for me. Would recommend trying something different time to time!

two watches:
1- Daytona: I never really liked it and always dismissed it. Until I saw one in 2015 and fell in love with it.
2- Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch: never considered the watch. Saw it on my friend's wrist and couldn't stop thinking of it. Read all about its history and variations, etc. And soon will be the owner of one!

Hmmm, guess going from a formal lifestyle with PP 3970er to today's casual Salt Life and a HoDink Timex, or Rolex, or Czapek, or....

Less is more.
