I had a glass of the Silver Oak Alexander Valley on Thursday and could barely drink it. I had a wonderful bottle a few months ago but was really disappointed this time :(

OMG!! I just found this thread (Been hanging out on the Dark side way too long, . . . but it's a fun group of folks!).
Since we've. been wino's for many many years (don't even ask...), I thought this might be fun. Then, as I scroll, I see Petrus, Scarecrow, Mouton, and DRC !!!???!??
Wow, I'm really out of my league here. Geezus - - - Talk about drooling!

But Marc? That '66 Leoville Barton will be a bit "over", don't you think? It's not like the '61, methinks. (And congrats on your giveaway win - - you sure looked like you deserved it!)

I'll start posting some great bottles we're having, and get in on this fun, to be sure!

Where did you score the half bottle of Mouton Rothschild? That's awesome!

Or are all the other bottles 1.5L?

I have a few friends who run restaurants on the west coast. They offer me things they are either not having any luck moving in their restaurants or aren't going to list because they have so few available. I buy younger 1/2 bottles all the time. Perfect for a supplemental bottle for two people.

That's awesome! Yeah, my wife and I rarely drink a full bottle during the week (kids, work, etc) so I've been buying more 375s. I bought all the 2014 Justin Cab half bottles our local Costco had. We're down to the last 4.

Enjoy!

We just opened this one recommended to us as a "Buttery Oaky" Chardonnay. We like it! On our list with Rom Bauer now! Nice wine in the $30 price range...

THE VINEYARDS
Sourcing from over 4 million acres along California’s Central Coast, Wild Horse has the luxury of choosing from the finest vineyards year after year to produce consistently enjoyable wine. From Santa Barbara County to Monterey, our Chardonnay vineyards are exposed to a variety of climate and soil conditions ultimately leading to a spice rack of different aromas and flavors. Our 2014 Cheval Sauvage Chardonnay was sourced from Rancho Real Vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County. These vineyards are meticulously farmed on very well-drained ocean-side sand dunes. The vines are naturally regulating and produce small volumes of intensely flavorful berries.

VINTAGE
The 2014 season in the Central Coast was dry, but very good, from bud break to harvest, providing ample ripening time. Harvest came early, offering grapes with beautiful aromas and flavors.

WINEMAKING
All of the grapes were handpicked into half-ton bins. Once at the winery, the grapes were delivered direct to press and gently squeezed to get the finest juice for our top-end Chardonnay. The juice was settled overnight. After moving the juice off solids, yeast was added. One hundred percent of this blend was barrel fermented in 100% French oak (40% new, 30% one year old, 30% neutral). After completion of primary fermentation, the barrels were topped up and stirred every other week for 10 weeks, allowing for the development of richness and mid-palate in the wine. After roughly six months of aging, our winemakers evaluate all barrel lots and select only the best individual barrels for this prestigious Cheval Sauvage blend. After 14 months of total barrel aging, the wine is ready for bottling.

WINEMAKER NOTES
Our 2014 Cheval Sauvage Chardonnay offers an inviting blend of aromas, including caramel, crème brûlée, freshly baked pastry, and spice with floral and mineral notes. The flavors are a delicious balance of freshness and creaminess, with vanilla, apple, and lemon. Pair with brie and gruyère cheese, pork chops and apple compote, pumpkin risotto, and fried chicken.

It was good but seemed a bit muted. Still good, though. Decanted for about an hour while I prepared dinner. We have the 06 and an 05 benchland select. I have higher expectations for the later.

The S.O. has been out of town for the past week and I've been off work, so decided to kick off grilling season with a few filets and some souffles (I took a cooking class this week while I had the free time).

I think I did alright. Wine needed an hour and a half in the decanter to really open up, but was great!
