Got lucky, was in London for a family trip and stop by Harrod's just before closing and they had an explorer 1 on display. I had told myself I would jump on a Sub if I found it but explorer has always been the other Rolex I wanted.
With the GBP depressed vs the USD and VAT refund I actually got a pretty good deal. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |

Dec 2018 was first customer through the door at new AD Boutique ... bought DSSD D-Blue. Placed on their list (first) for Daytona 500C (White) and GMT BLRO.
April 2019 texted asking for update ... he texted back that my BLRO was en route. Two days later got it! Here they are together! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would actually be really interested in outcomes if a few of us walked into ADs with 2-3 grand in cash, and just straight up tried to bribe them. I’m not saying I’d feel good about it but it might be financially efficient...

Purchased a Yachtmaster at an AD in 2017. Had my name added to the list for the BLRO the day it was announced. Received it 8 months later.

Out of curiosity where are you located? My biggest concern with this plan is I live in LA and the ADs near me are in really high end shopping areas. I just don’t know if they will even care - they might have enough people willing to play the game and buy other watches... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Did nothing for a SD43 but wait after contacting the AD.

I think one day, somebody is going to report that they took a wrinkly 75 year old AD sales assistant called Edna away for the weekend and emerged looking pale but wearing a blue sky dweller.

There’s no magic pill OP.
As you can see from all these replies, some have a bit of luck, some spend a lot to get what they want and others like me, get to know their AD and become friends. |

Nothing....was offered to me....didn't even show an interest in it or watches for that matter....My first watch ever...AD wanted to keep it local and not sell to someone that would flip it....

I picked up my Green sub this weekend.
I feel quite lucky as I have no purchase history with the AD and being in the UK things got crazy here before anywhere else. I put my name down on the list just before, or just as the shortage was building in mid 2017. I had a call a month or two after, but wasn't in a position to buy as I'd just picked up my GMT LN, but asked for my name to be kept on the list. Nice to know that the list does work even if it might not be in chronological order. |

Started this Rolex game back in May of 2018 when i saw a BLNR in a show case (not my local AD) and purchased it. In Aug of 2018 I found a local AD and just started to chat with them and got SD43, a couple of months later picked up LVc and a few weeks ago got BLRO. Hope to get DayC this year. I did not have to buy any PM or do any bundle purchases.

Depends on your local policies. There are definitely a few decent ADs (in certain markets) willing to “buy” the right customers and true collectors via strong past purchase history or simply their gut feeling... but for the most part it’s all about the $$$ and bundling tactics to them. They are freely able to dictate the process, I just choose not to play those games anymore.
Last AD purchase was an Explorer 1 last year. Went trusted seller this year after playing the relationship game for an extensive year. |

Started buying small as gifts.
Tudor ranger and Tudor black bay. Then they put me on a list for a SubC date and got it about 6 weeks later. About 1.5 months following they called me for a BLNR Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think the key word in the OP’s post is “convince”. I never went to my AD with a plan or an idea to obtain a hard to get piece. I am not a big spender relative to some here, but I am a good customer. If I am in the area, I stop in and say hi because I like the guy and we talk watches or the market in general. He will text me when something interesting comes in and some I buy some I don’t. At this point I have been offered pretty much all of the hard to get pieces. Bought the BLRO, passed on the Daytona and SD 43 etc... He told me if I changed my mind he could always get them for me. I have never inquired on any of these, he just knows I genuinely like watches. No gifts, no games, no expectations just what I feel is a “real” and genuine relationship with my AD. He knows he is my Rolex AD.

The dealer either calls me with watches I might be interested in or I ask them to find a model I want to buy. In the last year, I've picked up an Explorer II Polar, SD43, BLNR, Deep Sea, and a stainless steel Sky-Dweller. I am not a flipper. I always enjoy my visits to my Rolex AD as they are nice people and I appreciate the time and kindness they've shown me over the years. Being pushy or flexing isn't going to get you any hard to find watches.

I had to pay MSRP for it. Not so horrible, given the present atmosphere.

Relationship and purchase history. I started doing business with my AD back in 2012 and have always gone back to then. It's a process typically and can't happen over night.

Never bought anything. I just acted like a real baller (which I am, hehe). Got a SubD 2 weeks later.

One guy on this form sent his wife into the AD. I'm not sure what activity or things she did with the Rolex manager.... she was able to leave with a stainless steel Rolex. Read into that as you choose. It does make me think about hiring a ______ to visit my FL AD sales guy Nick.
